Broken Glass
- Gill Snedden (6th Aug 2020 - 13:46:23)

In the last couple of weeks we have experienced a lot of broken glass debris in the grounds of the Liphook Millennium Centre. Watching the CCTV from last night approx 10 young people, along with 2 cases of beer, gathered from about 8.40pm til very late, Bottles were thrown at the building and aimed into the bin, only they tend to miss the bin leaving sharp glass scattered on the paving and grass.
We are clearing the glass regularly but would ask that anyone using the Millennium centre grounds is extra careful, particularly on the grass areas.
These young people may themselves have enjoyed learning to ride their bicycles, scooters or skateboards in the area that they now choose to abuse.
Please could ALL parents have a word with the youngsters before they go out in the evening, please remind them of social distancing and of how their social behaviour can affect others. #parents #covid #liphook

Gill, can you not identify the people from the CCTV - name and shame!

This group where also recorded passing through the skate park area from the main rec and then out on Haslemere road with large box's of booze presumably just before getting over to the millennium center given the times.

They didn't however stop at the Skate park, had they done and started to break bottles the police would have been called and asked to approach them from both Haslemere Road and London road to fully catch them in the act.

Don't think their parents care to be honest. Couple weeks ago I witnessed one of the fathers drop 3 cases of beer off in his car just outside the entrance of the hall. Whole group of them waiting to take it around the back.

We are unfortunately unable to post any pics, or name and shame. But we do report these incidents to the Police. We will have to start looking at the front of the building CCTV as well, maybe we can send registration numbers of such vehicles in our reports. In the meantime my aim is to try to encourage parents to be thoughtful of where their children are and what they are doing when they go out. As a parent myself, I know its not easy.

Might I suggest an alternative strategy to deal with this problem.

Each cardboard beer carton is printed with a unique code as do many of the bottle labels. Using these the police are able to identify the retailer who has sold the beer, either to an under age drinker or an adult who has bought the beer on behalf of under age drinkers.

Either way both parties are guilty of an offence and may be prosecuted.
