EHDC and Coronavirus
- Bill Mouland (3rd Apr 2020 - 17:07:07)

Many thanks to the Editor for making a dedicated slot for Coronavirus updates via the EHDC website. Please see below the latest message from council leader Richard Millard and chief executive Gill Kneller.

During the current situation we're working hard to provide essential services for the people of East Hampshire.

We want to make sure you know where to get the latest reliable information. This is a difficult time for the country, but we're here to help you.

The council is working alongside voluntary organisations to make sure that support, services and supplies reach everyone that needs them.

If you are worried about how you'll cope during this crisis, or have a neighbour or relative who is vulnerable please ring 0333 370 4000.

A leaflet will soon be delivered to every household in the district with more information for residents who are not able to access to the internet.

Friends
Help us to help others
We are looking for volunteers to sign up and help people in the community. If you can help, contact our partners Community First at www.volunteerwessex.org

Business
Support for businesses
We want businesses to survive and for our local economy to be well placed for recovery when we emerge from this crisis, so we will provide as much support as possible during this period of unprecedented disruption.

We have been given responsibility for administering some of the government's schemes including business rates holidays and grants for retail, hospitality, leisure and small businesses.

Other support will be through HMRC, the Bank of England and the British Business Bank.

Services
Our services
Our offices are closed to the public in line with government advice to minimise social contact.

You can still contact us by visiting our website. For residents who do not have access to the internet, they can call us on 01730 266551.

Our staff are continuing to provide our services, as best they can, during these unprecedented circumstances. Please visit our website for up-to-date information

Bin
Your bins and other things
If your bin is not collected please leave it out, where it will not cause an obstruction, and our teams will collect as soon as they can. But this may not be until your next scheduled collection day.

We will collect excess rubbish and recycling for those bins that are missed.

If you, or anyone in your household is suffering from symptoms of coronavirus please follow Public Health England guidelines regarding the disposal of waste.

We hope you'll understand that we have had to temporarily suspended our bulky waste collections until further notice.

Keeping safe
For advice from the government about keeping yourself and your family safe during the coronavirus outbreak, go to www.gov.uk/coronavirus

We are in a fast-moving situation so for the latest updates on how council services are being affected by the outbreak go to www.easthants.gov.uk/coronavirus

Thank you

Businesses eligible for government grants will automatically receive them if we have their direct debit details.

Those we don’t hold details for will be contacted and asked to verify their details online.

We're aiming to get payments out ASAP.

Coronavirus-related business grants are now being issued to eligible businesses that East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) holds payment details for, with other eligible businesses able to confirm their details through an online form.

There are two grants available:

Small Business Grants - a one-off grant of £10,000 to businesses that pay little or no businesses rates
Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants - provides businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with a cash grant of up to £25,000 per property
How do I access a grant for my business?
The process for accessing grants is simple.

Eligible businesses that the council holds direct debit details for will be given their grant automatically.

Other eligible businesses – those EHDC does not hold direct debit details for – will be contacted directly by the council and asked to verify their details on an online system that can be accessed via the council’s website.

Filling in your information accurately will ensure that we have the correct details to enable grant payments to be made as quickly as possible.

EHDC is aiming to start making payments before the Easter weekend.

What will I need?
Businesses will need to have the following details to hand:

Business Rates bill
Bank details
VAT registration number (optional)
Company registration number (optional)
Find out more
To find out more about the grants and access the form to confirm your details, please visit the council’s business support webpage: easthants.gov.uk/coronavirus-business-support

Manage your business rates online
Business ratepayers can view their business rates account online by registering for a portal account.

It’s also a good way to keep an eye on whether your grant has gone into your account.

Sarah...you should be able to get the information by clicking on the Coronavirus banner at the top of the page and scrolling down to the business section. Alternatively you can email me your details bill.mouland@easthants.gov.uk and I can pass them on to the relevant department.

East Hants DC - ‪@EastHantsDC‬⁩

East Hampshire District Council has given out more than £11.8million in grants to 960 eligible businesses in just four days and is encouraging other eligible businesses to come forward.

The council has been able to get the money out quickly by automatically issuing grants to eligible businesses that it holds payment details for and using an automated form for the majority of other grants.

The two grants available are:

Small Business Grants - a one-off grant of £10,000 to businesses that pay little or no businesses rates
Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grants - provides businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with a cash grant of up to £25,000 per property
Letters have been sent to all eligible businesses in the district. The automated form can be accessed 24/7 through the council website.

Councillor Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: “As a small business owner, I know how vital these grants will be to keep businesses afloat during the coronavirus outbreak.

“The fact we have been able to process so many grants and get such a significant amount of money to these businesses gives me a great sense of pride in the work of the council’s dedicated staff.

“I am not going to pretend that these grants will put to rest all of the concerns that businesses will have as this crisis continues, but all East Hampshire businesses should know that we are here for them and will do everything we can to help them get through this.”

Eligible businesses can confirm their details here: easthants.gov.uk/coronavirus-business-support
