Old Thorns Gym
- Alex Wilson (12th Jan 2020 - 10:13:52)
Me and my wife are looking at joining a gym, Old Thorns is probably 1 of the closest to us, but does appear to be the most expensive for Peak membership, is it worth the extra cost?
Thanks

Have you checked out Champneys ?
Recently a number of new members have moved to Champneys from Old Thorns.
It has a smaller gym but rarely busy. Great pool and classes with the added benefit of no children. Very relaxing.
If you’d like to pop down as our guests happy to show you around.

I've been a member of both. Old Thorns is cheaper, the deals at Champneys offer restricted hours.
Old Thorns is the better gym in terms of space, equipment and facilities.
We also used the Sports Bar afterwards, which was handy for food.
Champneys has a much better pool area, but it is often crowded with day and weekend guests, and there is VERY limited gym equipment for a proper workout.
The ideal would be membership of both - Old Thorns for the gym and equipment, Champneys for the pool.

Agree with Paul, you can't really train properly at Champneys due to lack of equipment.

If you are super fit like me, you won't need either!

The Old Thorns Gym is easy the best due to size and equipment nearby. Whilst their is plenty of choice around I reckon it’s worth it.
Champneys is mostly a spa, you will feel good but it’s unlikely you will get physically better.
There are other cheaper gyms nearby but those are mostly outdated iron pumping stations suited to the dedicated muscle crew or the cheap skates.
With all of them it’s down to you to make it work, so yes old thorns is expensive if you won’t attend, that’s your fault not theirs. Most of us spank £80 on crap a month as it is so on Balance Gym, Spa, Classes, extras nothing else comes close locally, spending the money won’t make it happen, but it’s most likely to happen at all at old thorns.

Yes Irby
You have very strong wrists.
That's why your short game is so good.
