Liphook cinema complex
- Ray (10th Dec 2019 - 14:30:26)

What is happening about the cinema being built where anchor garage used to be.

Will it be done in time for toy story 8?

Toy Story 8000 maybe

looking forward to it, will meet a need. Mind you I don't think it will be a blockbuster showing venue like say Vue etc, could be wrong, but I'd love to see a big multiples chain in Liphook, I thought by A3, if we thought outside the box, could have a new junction with on off ramps on the land just south of Headley road, solve Liphook's traffic problems and entertainment problems in one fell swoop, funded by granting permission for a multiplex, hotel and restaurant, retail outlet complex etc and levying a tax on them, why are we thinking 1950s in Liphook but growing like it's 2099?

Given the seeming lack of progress, I'd wonder if this will ever happen and instead will be converted into flats as the 'easy way out' for the developer.

I hope I'm wrong, as I would support the cinema. But at this rate, there may no longer be cinemas in a future world when it's finished!

Any update on this? Preferably from Claire Beswick herself? I think it’s a shame they’ve not kept us all up to date as to what’s happening to the eyesore in our village centre.

I think they post updates on their own pages - although I haven't read them so don't know. you could always email them and ask for an update?

Shared on Instagram today :

thelivingroomcinema ** HAPPY NEW YEAR ** What many of you may not know is that The Living Room Cinema was founded all the way back in 2016. We are three years into our journey and don’t intend on stopping now.
In recent months, work has stalled on the Liphook site. Rumours are circling the village, many are questioning whether the cinema is happening at all.
It is.

2019 was a tricky year for small businesses. We have had to adapt and have made a number of key changes behind the scenes. We also rely on a number of partners, each facing their own challenges as a result of the unstable economic and political climate. One by one we have tackled these challenges and overcome them; at any point we could have decided enough was enough but we will not give up.

2020 brings a new sense of optimism, confidence and security. And when we finally do get to the finish line, the changes we’ve put in place will ensure we are in a far better position than ever before.

We believe in the magic of independent cinema, and we believe that Liphook is the place for it. Please, pay no attention to rumours and hearsay; you will hear the truth from us on our official channels (our website will soon be having an overhaul). Keep the faith, and we thank you for all of your support and patience.

Until then, I urge you to visit an independent cinema a little further afield. My top picks for the next month: Jojo Rabbit, 1917, The Personal History of David Copperfield 😊🎬 Claire & TLRC team

Thanks for sharing the information from Instagram Jim - I'm not on it so have no access.

Their update reads like a lot of spin, actions speak louder than words and Liphook still has an eyesore of a building in the centre and no end in sight.

Ironic that their post ends by encouraging us to visit an independent cinema. We'd love to - it's just that where the Liphook one was 'promised' is basically a ruddy great hole in the ground!!

I notice someone has smashed the front window now... :-(

I go to the Everyman in Esher or Walton to see all the films I want to see. A truly amazing experience. Armchairs and sofas, small armrest tables to sip and nibble a small individual pizza, a glass of wine...

Going next week to see JoJo Rabbit.

Haslemere Hall has most films I want to watch you can take their drinks in but no
Pizza ! The film prices are very reasonable.

- Nicky (9th Jan 2020 - 13:47:18)

I’m very much looking forward to visiting this new cinema although I do worry that they will have missed the boat with this ‘fad’ if they don’t open it soon!

Re: Liphook cinema complex
- er (9th Jan 2020 - 15:22:48)

From what it says on their website and after a little googling, the lady who owns this is a well known and respected in the cinema industry, she is apparently also local, if so I'm sure she's doing her best and maybe we should encourage her more instead of doubting etc, this is apparently their first local cinema project, so good luck, if it fails it'll probably become a Tesco Express or something like someone else suggested!
