Has anyone seen or heard anything about the old gentleman who walks from Liphook through Passfield to Bordon? We haven’t seen him for a while 😢

Yes I saw him last week walking from Petersfield towards Liphook.

It's been sub-zero at night

Does anyone look in on him in his tent to make sure he's alright? I've really been thinking about his welfare as he gets older and thinner.

I was wondering, as a community, whether we should ask our local council to try to help him during the freezing months of the year at least?

He does invaluable work cleaning up our verges. He always has numerous bags of plastic, glass, and tins which he picks up daily and takes to the recycling centres. I can't imagine how littered our verges would be if he was out there picking it up on a daily basis.

In the winter months he walks and walks and walks just to keep warm. I always offer him a lift and in summer months he will sometimes take it, but in winter he usually doesn't as he walks to both kill time and generate heat. If he gets to the other end of his journey early then he has nothing to do but hang around and get cold!

I understand that he doesn't seem to want to live in a conventional manner, but he is a lovely, intelligent guy who deserves to be looked after.

He can't be that switched on if he turns down the offer of living somewhere warm to live outside in a tent lol

It might not be welcome reading but he approached me one day and we had a decent chat at the skate park and he was frankly full of opinions that surprised me.

I wasnt offended as he wasnt directing it at me and he was very polite about it but he was clearly a troubled mind will alot to say that would upset many both home and away

This thread is a concern for his well-being, not to pass judgement on his opinions or beliefs. Can't be no more offensive than some of the comments posted on this website anonymously. I'm disappointed that people of Liphook, a relatively wealthy "middle class" area (not me on both accounts) regress to the level of "he said this and that".

I saw him walking up the old A3 towards Liphook in the rain this afternoon.

If he's trouble mind and refuses housing maybe that's how he wants it, don't make assumptions, he seems to get by, it's not quantity it's quality each his own way, maybe doesn't want to live in a flat who knows, or be judged for what he thinks.

I too have chatted with John, he is a really nice man, with a caring viewpoint and hates the destruction of our beautiful planet. He has lived a more conventional life style, but chooses this way of life now. While not everyone would agree with his views I would rather a world full of people like him than Boris Johnsons. Sorry to get political, but I really dislike the critical tone some have used about a lovely harmless person.
