Over hanging trees
- David (20th Jul 2019 - 20:46:12)

The path heading out of the village on the London Rd (left side) is becoming a problem as trees from gardens are hanging fairly low.
Is it council or owners responsibility to remove?
Whoever's responsibility it is can you solve the problem ASAP

David, I have offered a few hours each month to community projects. Could you please find out if the owner of the adjacent land is elderly and or unable to undertake the work. If this is the case, then in the name of health and safety for Liphookers using that busy road, especially kids, I would be pleased to deal with this issue FOC ASAP. Please call me on 01428 724812 to explain the exact location. Thank you. Paul

The path you are talking about is quite a long stretch, you will have to give specific examples otherwise owners of the trees will not think it is their trees that need cutting back.

The problem area is past the rec turning on the opposite side of the rd, after the last driveway before Tower rd, its approx a 20-30m stretch.

If you look on East Hampshire website you may be able T identify which properties are next two the trees using the My Maps facility. You could then contact either the owners or council for further advice.

Thanks for looking into this. They definitely need doing.

Yes so many footpaths are obstructed by overhanging or hedges that are not kept trimmed back. My husband has Parkinson’s and he needs me beside him for support and reassurance. Most of our pathways this cannot happen. Around The Mead is a problem, parts of Tunbridge Crescent, the Headley Road, London road and pathways in Bramshott village are also a problem.

Home owners really need to address this as a consideration to the users of these pathways.

I'm just wondering what the council actually do?
It seems as if locals like ourselves care & do more for the village, what do councillors do, what are we all paying extortionate amounts of council tax for?
Lets hope there isn't an accident caused by the trees

The council can step in and write to the householder responsible but it is not their responsibility to look after privately owned trees.

The work will be done early next week

Thank you Mike

Just further on this thread, we have today cut back the section of the overhanging hedge and branches which belonged to the owner of Mayfield House in London Road who contracted us to do this work.
Unfortunately, and not realised by us when I replied earlier in this thread, there is a further section that needs cutting back which is not part of Mayfield House, which I assume belongs to the block of flats on the southern corner of Tower Road and London Road.
I'm not sure if any arrangement has been made by that property's management. It may well be in hand following similar correspondence from the Hampshire Highway Authority to them, which is what led to the work we have done today being carried out for Mayfield House..

Gosh, I remember the days when everyone did these things.
Swept snow and ice off the pavements outside their houses - and their neighbors, filled potholes outside their homes cut their hedges and their neighbors if it was needed.

The phrase 'what do our council actually do' really shocked me.

Why is it somebody else's business to cut your hedge may I ask?

Why should it be a responsibility of East Hampshire District Council to cut the hedges of residents and businesses?

Well done to the people giving their time for free to do this, very good-natured of you to be giving back in this way. There is a big difference between someone volunteering their time and someone 'demanding' that a job be done for free at tax-payers expense while they sit back and look on.

The block of flats on the corner of London and Tower Road
is called Highcroft. I think the overgrown hedge which is blocking pavement access up the right hand side of London Road is their hedge.

There is also a major problem with the overgrown hedge on the corner of Tower and London Road belonging to Radford Court which blocks ones view of traffic coming up London Road from the A3 when turning right into London Road from Tower Road. Vehicles have to edge out into London Road to get a clear view of anything coming up London Road.
