Liphook and Liss Surgery
- John Novell (20th Jun 2019 - 15:25:29)
Just had to say a few words about my GP's surgery.
All we hear in the media is doom and gloom but my experience of all the staff I have had contact with has been beyond excellent. The waiting room has a pleasant, restful ambience, staff friendly, helpful and human!
I recently had a couple of occasions where urgent attention was needed and both times I was seen and treated within a couple of hours. We are so lucky to have such an excellent service.
Thank you to everybody in Station Road Surgery for your care and professionalism.
John Novell

Could not agree more, everyone at Liphook and Liss Surgery have treated me with utmost respect. I've been an awkward bugger for many years; from the helpful receptionists to the excellent nurses and Doctors, they have always looked after me and my family.
We have been, and remain, very lucky to have such an excellent sugery in Liphook. I hope they realise how well respected and appreciated everyone at the surgey are.

And another huge thumbs up from me. Everyone there, the doctors, the receptionists and the fabulous nurses are simply brilliant. We are so, so, lucky.

I second that Keith just the best. And I also go back to doctor Hardwick in his house before he was married.

This warm damp weather has created a perfect breeding ground for ticks, which can carry nasty diseases.
My Dad (80 yrs old) just called the GP to get an appointment with the nurse. He has a tick lodged into his skin-on his back. Obviously he can’t reach it. He was literally told to go away and find someone else to help!!!
Liphook and Liss Surgery, apparently, are happy to let a post-cancer patient in his 80’s fend for himself as the nurses won’t do it!!!! I’m so cross on his behalf. What sort of health service is it that can’t be arsed to look after the health of their old-folk in need.
Also, show me a human with arms (and eyes) able to deal with something, with a precision implement, in the middle of their back..... Appallingly bad neglect.
I hope that all of the staff see this and realise the upset they have caused him

I'm sure it is not a case of cant be arsed. It may well be that none of the nurses on site were trained for this and in today's society if the tick was removed incorrectly I bet a claim would follow. I see in another post you say you are not confident at giving it a go so why would anybody else not trained to do so feel any different.
Liphook and liss is a doctors surgery not a medical drop in centre, try minor injuries.

He was asking for an appointment with a nurse. He wasn’t demanding to come in right away.
Surely a nurse is qualified?

I've commented on ticks in another post but I thought I'd comment here too. Ticks are seasonal (May to Sept) and as someone else has said, this year has seen an explosion in numbers. Although in the "yeuk" category of insect they are relatively harmless. About 10% carry the bacteria which causes Lyme disease and a bitten person should be monitored for rash round the bite site and/or flu like symptoms 1 to 2 weeks after the bite. If this occurs consult your doctor. Infection is relatively rare but once bitten the bacteria, if present, will already have been introduced. Like all infections, many people already have immunity and will have no symptoms apart from mild itching after a bite. As regards the surgery actions, I very much doubt if a practice nurse/doctor will have been trained in tick removal. A veterinary nurse or vet would certainly know how to remove them but this is off no help for this patient. I don't know how the patient got the tick but all warm blooded animals can carry them and obvious vectors into the house will be cats and dogs. Make sure they have treated with tablets/collar/spot treatment to prevent tick infestation. Don't allow on the bed/furniture without treatment. if working outdoors, wear deet or long socks. Prevention is better than cure but anywhere where there is vegetation and animals will have ticks waiting for their next host. It's a very unpleasant feeling to have one of these bloodsuckers on you so I can fully sympathise with the carer and patient.

Might I suggest a trip to Haslemere Hospital drop in centre.
Always helpful, no appointment needed and this is exactly what they are there for.
Transport may be a problem but if it's not urgent then is the Poster able to arrange transport for sometime soon?

You were lucky then Jill
maybe the people who answer the phone have changed since then - or the nurses?
I'm told that 10% of ticks in this area have Lymes disease - so I would have thought they would continue to take it seriously.
I have seen the skin today, the swelling is down, less red and no 'rings' around it. I am keeping an eye on his general health in the next 2 weeks just in case any 'flu-like' symptoms show themselves.

A big shout out from me too for Liphook and Liss surgery.
Absolutely brilliant in my experience, which is unfortunately fairly frequent.
Staff always very friendly and helpful. Doctors are superstars. Nurses always helpful too.
Only minor nitpick is they have the weirdest door system in the world. :-)
Cheers, Finchie
