Recycling food containers, metal and plastic
- Lizzy (8th Jun 2019 @ 17:19:42)

Hi, can anyone tell me where I can recycle the above. For example, Sainsbury’s metal ready meal containers and plastic sausage containers for sausages, fish etc.

The EHDC web site isn’t very helpful.

Sainsbury’s have a recycling bin for plastic containers. It’s with all the recycling bins in the car park

Thanks for that, I do recycle all my plastic bags and soft plastic at Sainsbury’s. Is it OK to put the plastic containers I mentioned in with them?

So, I guess that I can assume no one who reads Talkback recycles metal food containers. How disappointing!

Not on here every day so l have only just seen the link. The metal trays can be recycled via the Recycling place at Borden, We have been taking them there for years together with the foil cases from the apple pies. wash them out , squash down and l keep them in an old shrederbox in the garage, take to Borden when full. It says No Meat Trays on the Sains bins. There is a programme on tv Monday about recycling .

Hi Dee K,

Thanks so much. We do go over to Bordon Recycling often, so that’s great.

Do you know where or if you can recycle the plastic trays that e.g. salmon fillets, grapes, sausages etc come packed in?

Many thanks, again.

I take the plastic containers that grapes, strawberries etc come in to the recycling bins in the car park at the top of Weyhill, Haslemere as I believe Hampshire does not accept them in the kerb side recycling. I do the same with yoghurt pots, tetrapak (juice cartons), and the other hard plastic items you mentioned (food trays). I also think they take clean foil and the soft metal trays. Waverley borough council is streets ahead of EHDC in terms of recycling. Surely it’s about time we had food waste recycling here too.....

Thanks so much Sam and Dee K

Hopefully you’ve covered all my recycling problems.

Sam, yes it would be nice if EHDC could catch up with Waverley.

Thanks again, we won’t save the world, but we can do our bit?

Lizzy
