the L and S Coffee shop
- helen (19th Apr 2019 - 22:32:06)

I was horrified to read the front page story on the Liphook Herald and the terrible experience endured by the owners and staff. What was more horrifying was that the 2 male customers in the queue did nothing to step in and help the female staff when they realised they were in trouble. I hope they are ashamed of themselves.

No response so I guess nothing happened !

Really "d"
your last response is not very useful and a little unkind. Herald newspapers are available everywhere.

Let me Google it for you (other search engines are available).

Here is the enfry from Facebook of what happend on 9 April.

"So...... This happened today.
Abused by two thugs, trying to fraud us... Corrupting our card machine and demanding money from the till.
A solid 20mins of confrontation until I called the police and they bolted whilst vandalising our walls, our gifts, our ceilings, bespoke artwork, furniture and more....
.
Thank you to the local office gentlemen (regulars I might add) who were in the que watching this take place and left the shop promptly & us ladies alone as soon as the thugs got abusive that was really appreciated 👍 thanks so much.
.
My staff have gone home early in shock which I wish they didn't have to suffer.
.
We've got a heap of police reports to now deal with aswell as a massive clear up.
.
We'll be closing today as soon as our last customers who are currently here leave.
.
Shall keep you posted on the rest.
My main thought today is... LOOK AFTER EACH OTHER. I can't be the only human to want to protect the good people around me whether I know you or I don't, like you or dislike you, I see something horrid, I'll help you out.
.
Stay safe."

So please just be kind to your neigbours, you never know what they are going through.

Maybe Helen was too busy to respond herself too.

Regards
Vera

Having done about a three minute search of the Liphook Herald website I discovered this relates to an attempted armed robbery at the cafe - something you could have done.

Perhaps the reason the original poster has not responded to you is that they are busy - after all you gave them a whole hour to reply!

Finally, with the information that it was on the FRONT page of the paper, why not try walking into a shop and looking at the headlines.

Fairly logical I'd have thought.

Shocking and sad risk of running a small business in Britain today, but I'm not sure why the fact that the two customers were said to be male has any relevance to this story (they may or may not even self identify as male), tackling robbers trying to rob a shop or not should be a personal choice based on your own confidence in your abilities to help the situation v risk for anyone not a sex based requirement to help stop a shop being robbed/ card machine being scammed etc, as a small businessman years ago we were advised to give the money if violence was threatened and not get into a potentially life or death fight with robbers over a till etc (any fight with a robber can potentially become life threatening in the blink of an eye especially if they see a bloke wading in, chances are they are tooled), leave it to the police, keep calm etc. Just a thought, knowing nothing any more about what transpired than is written here, just not sure criticising customers is fair in robbery situations and being male is no longer a sex based duty. Having said that, if you see a person (not just ladies) being physically attacked hope most of us would try to assist the victim.

All I asked was what had happened at the coffee shop. I did not expect a full summary of readers opinions of on the state of human behaviour in the given circumstances.

ps: Richard - there was a gap of something like 3 days between my posts and not the one hour you mentioned.
