Litter in Liphook - Philip Jordan (24th Mar 2019 - 12:51:41)
Today Liphook in Bloom together with most welcome volunteers managed to clear areas in Liphook. We do this once a year as the flower beds are coming into bloom and before the hedgerows are in leaf. There is always a lot of litter to collect!
We are very grateful to the volunteers who came out to help. Without them the task would be too much for just the Liphook in Bloom team.
Cleared of litter the village area looks so much better. If only the litter was not dropped there in the first place!
We can all help to keep the litter down by just seeking to keep our own part of the village tidy. Please help where you can.
Once again a lot of litter was collected from the area around Sainsburys. We will once again seek there better efforts to remove the litter.
Thank you to everyone who came out to help.

I want to tackle litter at source whenever we can. I learnt something this morning.
I found dumped McDonalds on Tunbridge Lane early this morning (as i regularly do on all the roads through the village).
I photographed it, threw it in a litter bin, kept the receipt so the council could identify the culprit. Their website says they will always take action if they can.
I reported it. They say i've tampered with evidence so won't take it further.
In respect of litter - Leave it and report it. I'm sure it will get spread along the lane by the rat runners.

Thanks for your efforts Agent 49 (?). The likelihood of prosecution for littering is very small so I guess it's up to those of us who care about our village to pick up after the litter louts (or 'tossers' as they are called by the Keep Britain Tidy lot).
To get to the source, how about an increase in business rates/taxes for the manufacturers and purveyors of the items most often tossed (KFC, McD's, Red Bull to name a few) to fund a paid litter picking service?
Keep it up.

Are we sure the likes of Mcdonalds actually pay the taxes most of us do - I thought they were one of the ones that use loopholes in UK tax laws? Please everyone be responsible citizens take your litter home - its not that difficult
