LIPHOOK, UNITED KINGDOM (February 13, 2019) – Construction work has formally commenced on the first, new concept, The Living Room Cinema, transforming the former Anchor Garage site in Liphook, Hampshire. The cinema will open in Autumn 2019, following an extensive and successful planning process. Read more...

This sounds brilliant, exactly what the village needs. My only question really is how it will work, I presume it won't be showing the latest films on release night? If not, what will be the sort of film evening we should expect?

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Lucy (18th Feb 2019 - 12:47:52)

I have head that there will be a membership to take out as well as an additional charge for the film. Do think it is going to be showing more independent style films than the multiplexes.

Details here:

Including membership etc.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Darren (18th Feb 2019 - 20:16:57)

Don't get too excited. It seems to be members only and the subscription is expensive

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Helen (18th Feb 2019 - 20:54:30)

There’s the option to purchase different sorts of membership when you look ar their website but I didn’t get the impression that that’s the only option. I’m hoping it’ll be like the New Park Cinema in Chichester.

Good evening everyone,

Thank you for all of your kind words. Very excited to be bring cinema to Liphook!

We are not a members only operation. There will be a variety of membership options which will suit frequent customers, offering different benefits and reduced "members priced" tickets, and unlimited memberships (larger annual payment, unlimited tickets). Membership is not compulsory and normal tickets will also be available.

Thanks,

This looks wonderful, I have to say. If only we were younger...
I've not been an avid cinema goer for many a year but it is exactly the sort of thing that would certainly have enticed me to be so.
I wish you luck with the new venture.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Alison (18th Feb 2019 - 21:56:34)

Hi Living Room Cinema!
What sort of films will you be showing and how much approximately will non-membership tickets be? Will you be showing family films too? My children are excited at the prospect of a cinema in the village!

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- k (19th Feb 2019 - 09:35:33)

Give em a chance - at least let them get up & nearly running before all the negativity & questions about what showing - -Lets get behind them & try & support this new venture.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- liz (19th Feb 2019 - 09:46:21)

What prices are the non-membership tickets?

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Rölli (19th Feb 2019 - 10:12:32)

As K said give them a chance, the place isn't even built yet! Keep an eye on the official website for further news, based on many of the posts on forums such as this I would be very surprised if any business puts too much information about their charges here as that will just be an open invitation to the trolls and abusers

Looks very cool :)

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- John (19th Feb 2019 - 12:39:34)

Asking questions is normal, after all the Living Cinema were handing out flyers in Haslemere in December well before planning permission was given. Realistically
It may be more than a year before it is ready. The houses will probably be the first thing built and sold to give cash to build and fit out the cinema.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- liz (19th Feb 2019 - 13:45:05)

Rolli

Asking questions doesn't make you a troll or abuser. The membership prices are already published on the website so I'm sure ticket pricing is already part of the business plan although prices will almost certainly vary.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Rölli (19th Feb 2019 - 14:17:10)

Liz please get off your high horse. I was not saying that question asking was abusive and trolling but that the reaction to responses (especially when it comes to costs) often is

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- John (19th Feb 2019 - 16:42:11)

The owners are publicising their business via talkback, if people are showing interest that is good for them surely. No such thing as bad publicity. I am sure they
do know how much the tickets will be priced. It is not a market stall selling veg where the price will vary.

- John Raeyen (19th Feb 2019 - 17:46:03)

Fantastic news. Great to have something new in the village that will not only make that area look better but will benefit the whole community.
I am looking forward to seeing the progress. Let's hope it gets the support it needs to be a success.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Tim (19th Feb 2019 - 18:42:46)

This is brilliant, some much needed regeneration of our village. Well done and good luck, we’ll be there supporting you when you’ve opened.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Mum of 3 (19th Feb 2019 - 21:08:15)

Fantastic for the village! Cant wait....

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- liz (20th Feb 2019 - 08:16:14)

Rolli

You are too negative. The responses to marketing seem very positive because it is a great idea!

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Mick Sterbs (20th Feb 2019 - 10:21:06)

Hey everyone, can we for once stop all the bickering on this thread. I put this on Talkback (I’m nothing to do with the cinema) as I thought it was a brilliant thing for the village and I wanted others to share my enthusiasm. Thanks to those people who have done that. We should count ourselves lucky that such an innovative business idea should have Liphook as its first venture and I for one will be supporting it wholeheartedly.

On the Hampshire Planning website is more info about the cinema 22101_007-THE_LIVING_ROOM_CINEMA_OVERVIEW-802791.pdf

In case that link doesn’t work, an extract says.....

“Combining a quality film offer with casually luxurious social space for coffee and drinks, The Living Room Cinema concept is a single screen cinema model with a large, lounge-like foyer area. An all day café transforms into a wine bar in the evening. We focus on the under-served marketplace of small affluent market towns, in commuter belt locations. Iconic buildings on high streets will become “destination venues” for the community. Creating a community-centric hub, we will support the local environment by providing employment for the local area, and by supplying good quality locally sourced food and drink with a minimal environmental price tag.” .... and to me that sounds pretty fantastic.

We end up with another café, another restaurant and a unique cinema experience so let’s embrace this initiative and avoid the usual negative bickering. And for God’s sake, don’t anyone start banging on about parking!

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Paul (20th Feb 2019 - 12:40:59)

Mick, we have 2 excited teenagers saying they are looking forward to having something like a cinema in Liphook - says it all really!

Trust the younger generation to see the positives :)

At the moment we have an unused site and cries for new retail / service opportunities in the town. We're finally getting something a bit unique.

I'm all for it, and I hope it works. From what I've read the people behind it look sensible and have done their homework. Hopefully other new ventures for Liphook can and will follow.

Paul

I may be misreading this thread but most comments seems very positive and interested to me!

Re: The Cinema is coming !

Well said Mick Sterbs!

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Paul (21st Feb 2019 - 08:01:15)

Liz, just to clarify - I wasn't and try not to comment on other posts, where I mentioned that the younger generation was looking forward to it I just meant our teenagers being all for it!

It's a great venture and I think it will be excellent for Liphook so I'm just adding our voice of support all round .. !

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- JBS (26th Feb 2019 - 11:57:44)

Where will the cinema patrons park?

Considering the general laziness of the locals, in not often using the Midhurst Rd. car park, even when visiting the Chinese takaway, which is closer!

I forsee general chaos around the Haslemere and Midhurst roads junction.

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Adrian (26th Feb 2019 - 13:34:35)

Car thieves / vandals operate in the Midhurst Rd carpark at night so probably best to walk

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Mick Sterbs (26th Feb 2019 - 18:50:23)

I feared this would happen ........ someone banging on about parking !! It’s a 60 seat cinema not the O2, and many attendees will probably be local so maybe there’s a need for 15 cars to park somewhere. Not a big deal is it?

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Stan (26th Feb 2019 - 21:38:50)

I hope here will be popcorn 🍿 to munch and crunch with Adrian’s green bananas ?

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Paul (27th Feb 2019 - 17:28:47)

I agree with certain comments that it is a unique venture but obviously this will come at a cost. You can guage how much by membership prices, i.e the most expensive being £1500 a year. Ok you don't have to buy membership but I haven't seen individual film costs so I expect them to be on a part with normal cinema costs plus the drinks and eats. I am not saying this won't be popular but on the other hand there is a perfectly good cinema at the millennium hall which us probably a cheaper alternative. I myself prefer the large settings of Vue or Odeon which offer more choice and better value. People might have a different opinion 6 months down the line as I think this not appeal to the masses.

This is just brilliant !

I for one can’t wait. Healthy brisk walk there, date night with Finchess, swift half in the GD (maybe !).

Cheers, Finchie

Does anyone know when work will start, when it will be completed?

Re: The Cinema is coming !
- Rachel2 (28th Jan 2020 - 09:41:21)

Is there any news on the cinema or the other empty shops near there?
