- Peter Rowan (7th Dec 2018 - 16:27:27)

My Land Rover Defender 90 County R 284 KWV has been stolen from the forecourt of Whiterose Automotive in Hillbrow Liss at some time during last night or early this morning. Epsom Green, no outstanding features. Police notified, any help gratefully received

Looks like the ATM guys are getting ready for another job.

Cash reward now offered for any information leading to the return or knowledge of the fate of our beloved Land Rover, 20 years of ownership, and 250k family miles, a part of our lives, our hearts are broken. No sick postings thank you.

Found burnt out and destroyed in Sussex - nothing left but the chassis - I have no words to describe my sorrow

Was this at the latest atm raid at broken spur garage?

Really sorry to hear this Peter. Mindless.

Dear Peter,

I was so sorry to read about your beloved Landy. What a horrible thing to happen to a family treasure. I wish you well and hope your faith in people is not too dented.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Our beloved landy was also stolen and destroyed (ATM theft). We drove ours around South America for a year and he was very much part of our family.

- Y (12th Dec 2018 - 09:20:37)

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about the theft of your Landy. It clearly meant a lot to you.

Secondly, it is ONLY a car. It's not flesh and blood, not a beloved parent, not a family pet etc. so let's have a semblance of perspective here please.

Y

You have obviously never owned a Land Rover!

Re: STOLEN LAND ROVER
- Sarah (12th Dec 2018 - 14:05:54)

I am so sorry that your land rover was taken and destroyed.

I response to Y - did you really have to say that? People get attached to objects and their associated memories as well and suffering such a mindless crime is upsetting. Sometimes it is ok to just listen, sympathise and let someone be upset for a while instead of shooting them down so quickly. Have a heart.

Re: STOLEN LAND ROVER
- Y (12th Dec 2018 - 16:30:36)

Well, and this is probably a first for you liz, you'd most definitely be wrong there.

Re: STOLEN LAND ROVER
- Rölli (12th Dec 2018 - 17:34:03)

I think Y was probably just expressing what others were thinking about this post.

There is a growing tendency for people to be over sensitive and too easily offended but one could also say people have forgotten the old saying that if you have nothing nice to say then don't say it. (yes! I know I have been guilty of this)

It is a rapidly changing online world and internet decorum is in a state of evolution and we are all going to make a lot of mistakes before an established protocol is found.

Re: STOLEN LAND ROVER
- Peter Rowan (12th Dec 2018 - 17:36:19)

Thank you to all of your positive replies - all we wanted was any information as to the fate of our vehicle, not comment on the semblance of our perspective, as requested in my original posting, no it was not flesh and blood, a parent, or a pet, although on the same day a similar crime was committed where a working dog, similar to ours, was thrown out of the Land Rover - you won't want the rest of the details. Thank god my boy was not in the back.

Thanks Sarah - God bless you for your attitude to life

Old Land Rovers are a bit like old MGs, E-types, Austin Healeys (who were all ultimately owned by the infamous British Leyland at some point), when they get stolen and wrecked it's not like losing a Vauxhall Astra!

Land Rover owners lavish a lot of spare time, money and pride in them, there are shows where you can take them, as well as still being popular and reliable work vehicles, so of course it's sad that they're being targeted, being technologically virtually unchanged since the 1940s security is nowhere near modern standards and sadly due to their solid design and torque they make ideal smash'n'grab vehicles, such a shame.

I would be so sad to see less of these oldies on the road!

Unfortunately Land Rovers are being stolen in large numbers each week.

If you own a Land Rover Series, 90, 110 / Defender please be extra vigilant.

There are plenty of on-line groups that share information which can often lead to the recovery of such stolen vehicles. They also advise on additional security that can be added to your vehicle.

Oldie
I'd be furious if someone stole my Vauxhall Astra!!!
I need her to get to work too!
