Sweet Treats
- BR (19th Oct 2018 - 08:00:06)

Hi, does anyone know when the new Sweet Treats shop opens?

Re: Sweet Treats
- C (21st Oct 2018 - 10:35:47)

My son who’s friends with the new owners son tells me they are opening after the half term to coincide with the school kids return back. He visited it last week and said it well stocked with lots of exciting treats so I’m sure they will do a great trade with all the Bohunt kids!

I wish them all the best in their new venture!

Re: Sweet Treats
- Ann (22nd Oct 2018 - 16:05:04)

Where is the new sweet shop?

Re: Sweet Treats
- Gr (23rd Oct 2018 - 07:06:10)

Next to the green dragon Where the Acupuncture centre was

Re: Sweet Treats
- d (23rd Oct 2018 - 09:11:57)

Guess that will have the Bohunt kids charging across the road on a suicide run !

Re: Sweet Treats
- Ann (23rd Oct 2018 - 09:17:31)

Thanks for that - look forward to it opening. When I was child there used to be a sweet shop near to where Findlay`s flower shop is.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rita (24th Oct 2018 - 07:53:33)

Nice to have a sweet shop. Something different.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Steve (25th Oct 2018 - 14:58:58)

Sign on the door saying it opens on the 27th Oct.
Hope there are lots of old fashioned sweets :-)

Re: Sweet Treats
- Emma (27th Oct 2018 - 14:35:37)

The sweet shop isn’t open today that’s a shame. Doesn’t anyone know why. Feeling sad 😔

Re: Sweet Treats
- AJ (3rd Nov 2018 - 12:05:13)

Not sure where you live Rita but there is already a perfectly good sweet shop in the Square that has been there for over 25years as mentioned in the Liphook magazine, that has been welcoming school students for generations

Re: Sweet Treats
- Paul (5th Nov 2018 - 14:10:10)

Perfectly good sweet shop?....as far as I can recollect there are no other sweet shops in the square which sell sweets only. Sweet Treats is marvellous with their bottled old favourites!

Re: Sweet Treats
- AJ (14th Nov 2018 - 16:40:39)

Gables Newsagents is what I was talking about, they sell all kinds of sweets as well as other things and has been serving the whole community for generations. It's a shame to see other locals don't see that but guess not everyone will look after the small original shops. We will continue to only be getting our sweets from there and supporting them but of course, wish the new people well with their business

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rita (14th Nov 2018 - 21:52:59)

Hi AJ.
Well aware of the fact that there is a newsagents in liphook selling sweets .Having lived in liphook since I was born. I can shop where I want to thanks. I also know Sainsbury's sells sweets too. Xx.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rita (14th Nov 2018 - 22:04:05)

Hi Paul.
You have got the nail on the head with your post. I am looking forward to having a nose in sweet treats when I can. I love the old fashioned sweets in jars.
By the way AJ , I don't think that the newsagents are going to loose sleep over me not buying my sweets from them. Xx

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rölli (15th Nov 2018 - 14:43:22)

Rita - you are completely missing the point! Margins are very tight and without specifically wishing ill on the new business which looks very nice, the newsagents which has served the village well for many years will suffer if they see a fall in their customer base. Worse case scenario, they close, we then have to use Sainsburys to get our papers (without delivery) and no doubt would end up with either an empty shop, another estate agent or another hairdressers in the village. Local businesses need a degree of local loyalty to survive.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Paul (16th Nov 2018 - 08:18:02)

I think you're reaction is a tad exagerrated Rolli! I'm sure there is enough room in the village for Sweet Treats and Gables. The newsagent is not a one string bow at the end of the day, also they could have stocked the old fashioned bottled sweets over the years but obviously decided there wasn't much call for them. Sweet Treats have probably done some research to find out if people want these old fashioned bottled sweets and the answer is a resounding yes. The similar shop in Petersfield does pretty well!

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rita11 (16th Nov 2018 - 08:27:38)

Rolli.
I can get my sweets where I want too.
Enough said. I don't have to be dictated too by you or Aj or anyone else.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Paul (16th Nov 2018 - 13:05:24)

Well said Rita!....taxi for Rolli! (oops he already drives one!)

Re: Sweet Treats
- Rita (16th Nov 2018 - 13:06:53)

Once again Paul you are correct. I don't eat the standard type of sweets you get in the gables. But AJ and Rolli seem to like to jump down people's throats without thinking and like to think that they are in the right. It's so easy to say things without using a name and over a keyboard. Xx

Re: Sweet Treats
- Finchie (17th Nov 2018 - 07:34:46)

Wow!

Hopefully Sweet Treats sells chill pills as they are certainly needed in Liphook !

Happy Weekend.

Finchie

Re: Sweet Treats
- Villager (17th Nov 2018 - 07:58:59)

Strange when the village was smaller we had more shops selling sweets
Spencelys , the gables , mrs ledbetters , roy web , circle k , mathews , coop , station shop , candy box

How many more can residents remember ?

Re: Sweet Treats
- Sheila (17th Nov 2018 - 11:44:01)

Mrs. Leadbetters was the main sweet shop I think along with Blythes in the square at the top of Headley Rd where Take-a-way is now!!!..
Leadbetters was a great little shop for us school children then for spending & choosing loose sweets with our pennies, like 2 for a penny! Lovely memories! 😋👌

Re: Sweet Treats
- Adrian (18th Nov 2018 - 14:48:53)

My favourite was RAVENS which was next to the old anchor garage,
I hope the new shop does well but as we all remember a number of shops that are no longer in business probably through lack of trade i don't see how this one will succeed. I hope im wrong.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Debbie (26th Jan 2019 - 11:42:36)

Does anyone know the opening hours for this sweet shop? Promised the children a visit this morning and it was shut!

Re: Sweet Treats
- Simon (26th Jan 2019 - 13:31:37)

Does seem a bit erratic. I took my daughter there twice the week after New Year and was closed both mornings.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Debbie (26th Jan 2019 - 17:29:34)

Very odd. Oh well, I shan’t bother trying there again on a Saturday, we’ll head to Haslemere instead!

Re: Sweet Treats
- G (26th Jan 2019 - 20:11:04)

Gotta say, Haslemere shop in the hi street easily the best for sweets. Take my dad in there for the old days experience. They also have the best dark chocolate ever!!!!

Re: Sweet Treats
- T J A (26th Jan 2019 - 22:49:02)

Have you not given a thought that the shop could have been shut for other reasons. Give them a break. A new business not an empty shop... if you or your child can't wait .by all means go to haslemere which yes is a good shop. Really is this what it's come to. It makes me sad that people are complaining. Please be happy people

Re: Sweet Treats
- Simon (27th Jan 2019 - 09:16:54)

TJA - who's complaining? Merely responding to a question put by another poster. I think that's the idea behind the forum.

No doubt should this new business fail we'll be blamed for not using it, but tricky to do when it's closed on every visit.

Re: Sweet Treats
- t (31st Jan 2019 - 12:33:01)

I happen to know they were shut for family reasons. but i guess none of you on here understand that and expect them to be open all hours for you. i personally think they are doing an amazing job and are always polite and helpful. simple thing dont like the fact they have lives and families dont shop their full stop.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Amy (31st Jan 2019 - 12:52:11)

t, I think you have misunderstood what a shop is. A shop is there to provide a service and to do that people need to know when it will be open. Whilst it’s understandable that a small, family run business might need to close for personal reasons, that doesn’t alter the fact that yes, people do expect a service and regular opening hours. A simple note on the door explaining the shop hours and when it would be closed would prevent people having to ask on a public forum and seemingly upset you.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Debbie (31st Jan 2019 - 13:06:18)

t - given that Simon visited twice in the week after New Year and I visited on Saturday 26th and it was closed all 3 times they must be very unlucky and have a lot of family problems! Simple business - if you aren't reliably open then you can't complain if people go elsewhere. How is that difficult to understand?

Re: Sweet Treats
- t (1st Feb 2019 - 18:43:03)

so instead of going in the shop and suggesting these to them you slate them and their business off on here to try and get people to take their trade elsewhere? i guess you cant do that though as your all more then happy to slag them off on here and all to much of cowards to go in there.
lovely talking to you but i have a life off of here, cant spend my day slagging of locals.. byeee

Re: Sweet Treats
- Amy (1st Feb 2019 - 19:16:01)

t, could you suggest a time to go in and discuss these recommendations with the staff? It’s just that if you read above you’d see that several people on different days and at different times have turned up at the shop and found it closed. Perhaps if we knew the opening hours we’d be able to discuss the points raised here in person.

Re: Sweet Treats
- A.R (1st Feb 2019 - 19:31:39)

Oh dear.

Re: Sweet Treats
- SJ (1st Feb 2019 - 20:34:56)

Hi does anyone actually know who owns this shop? Is it a franchise? I took my little girl there and it was closed, does it only open when the kids come out of school maybe? We won’t be going again we had to park at the rec and walk up, she was so excited, I then had to take her over to haslemere!

Re: Sweet Treats
- Grant (1st Feb 2019 - 20:46:29)

Byeeeee T
What on earth are you on about?!....

Re: Sweet Treats
- old time villager (2nd Feb 2019 - 10:30:55)

After reading these posts not surprising hardly any new shops in the village you bunch of moaning grumpy whats its names

always glass half empty and expecting everything to be available 24/7

not sure how you survived when shops where shut on Sundays and over Christmas .

Bet you all want time off from work but not allow shop owners time off

Re: Sweet Treats
- J (2nd Feb 2019 - 13:11:48)

Blimey, I don't think people are moaning or expecting 24/7 opening - merely trying to work out what is going on in the absence of any other info regarding the opening hours of the shop! It sounds to me like people are trying to use it and support a local business but have been unable to do so, therefore have mentioned an alternative option.

Re: Sweet Treats
- JESSIE (2nd Feb 2019 - 14:49:26)

I think people need to give this shop a break. They are a small family run business and I believe with young children themselves so maybe with the snow the past couple of days they haven’t had the childcare or able to get to work? I have visited myself with my children many of times and they are very polite friendly helpful people and they put a lot of effort in with the local community so I think people need to remember this and stop moaning they are trying just like all the other small businesses around. FYI lazy lizard and other shops were shut for the Christmas period. All people moaning on here need to seriously get a life.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Susan (2nd Feb 2019 - 16:45:37)

Well said Jesse, You people are sad and can find anything better to moan about. ranting over a small sweet shop in Liphook, imagine what they have to say about Brexit!!! Would love to be a fly in the wall. Laughable, it really is.
Sweet treats is just what this village needed.

Re: Sweet Treats
- Grant (2nd Feb 2019 - 18:48:55)

Back to the original question, when are sweet treats open?
Sunday? 🕒

Re: Sweet Treats
- J (2nd Feb 2019 - 19:25:45)

I'm still failing to see how asking when a shop is open is attacking a business?!

Those people (T J A, t, old time villager, JESSIE and Susan) "defending" the shop and the people that run it have blown this all out of proportion completely! Go back and read the posts starting from Debbie's on the 26th Jan and you'll see it's just people asking when it's open and mentioning that they'd found it closed. An alternative option has also been suggested. These people would probably like to shop there if they could!

Re: Sweet Treats
- Simon (28th May 2019 - 17:15:41)

Finally got round to visiting Sweet Treats today after a few failed attempts earlier this year - pleased to say it was great, loads of nice stuff, my daughter was completely spoilt for choice. Some nice retro treats and the best 20p lollies that seem to last forever. Will definitely be heading back.

Re: Sweet Treats
