car break in Silent Garden
- victim (15th Aug 2018 - 07:22:28)

Morning all,

Just to warn all hard working decent Liphook residents that the gutter snipe are back again breaking into cars.

Clearly the not so clever "slow" perpetrators picked the wrong vehicle last night as my daughters car resembles an open skip and they were probably lucky not to be bitten by the resident rats.

I would advise the gutter snipe to visit A & E as I'm sure you'll of picked up some hideous disease or infection..

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- k (15th Aug 2018 - 10:50:38)

Hope you realise GUTTER SNIPE is a very good reliable company name for Cleaning Gutters - appreciate your sentiment on the stolen vehicle - but should you be possibly be damaging a company name by default - please consider more carefully what you send to social media & its possible impact on innocent people. Sorry you were the victim of the growing thefts in the area & the impact of not so nice people.

Definition of guttersnipe
1 : a homeless vagabond and especially an outcast boy or girl in the streets of a city
2 : a person of the lowest moral or economic station

I guess they knew that when they chose their company name. Not the OP's problem.

We also had our car broken into last night between 2310 hrs and 0600 hrs. We had iPod stolen.

- Gr (15th Aug 2018 - 12:22:12)

Time for cctv around the village

Gutter snipe too good a term for these low lifes

And K poor response but I guess sums people up today

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Rölli (15th Aug 2018 - 15:54:14)

K - just googled them, Waterlooville or Midhurst, don't really see too much of a Liphook connection and I think the chances of anyone associating or making a connection with the OP to these businesses is pretty remote. Perhaps a tad overreacting?

- Mike (15th Aug 2018 - 18:56:02)

Might be worth a chat with Cove Homes - they have CCTV around the site at the moment - it might have picked up something from last night??

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Andrew (15th Aug 2018 - 20:01:04)

K shut up with your rubbish ...someone had their property damaged so you comments are wasted..

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- david (15th Aug 2018 - 21:11:21)

they were in Midhurst road and Winnipeg close. shame they don't know how to close the doors after they been in the cars.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- F (15th Aug 2018 - 22:07:07)

They also visited Huron Drive (caught on CCTV at 3.20am - 2 young men/boys very quietly opening up unlocked cars and searching inside). Has been reported to Police who may, subject to resources, look at the footage.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Katie (16th Aug 2018 - 00:10:56)

A car was broken into at Iron Hill too. It was on Liphook Rants or Liphook Mums on Facebook.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Debbie (16th Aug 2018 - 09:33:57)

Clearly Liphook is a favoured spot for our criminal friends - Hudson Close was "attacked" back in July.

Fingers crossed they are caught!

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- wendy (16th Aug 2018 - 09:54:54)

This is why garages were built, but no one seems to put cars in them anymore. It would stop vandals, and protect the cars in bad weather. Just a suggestion.

Most garages are still too small for modern cars which grow in size every model year. Garages also tend to be the more secure shed option.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Dee (16th Aug 2018 - 10:41:46)

Obviously horrible to have your car actually broken into, but with regards to the previous comment about Huron Drive - why on Earth are people leaving their cars unlocked? Not sure what the Police would do about it if you don't take basic precautions to safeguard your property!

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Slimetime (16th Aug 2018 - 11:00:02)

I keep my car in the garage but for many it’s not an option, either because they don’t own a garage or their car doesn't fit. In most cases, keeping your car in a locked garage actually increases your car insurance premium.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- k (16th Aug 2018 - 11:23:39)

To Rolli appreciate your comment but Gutter Snipe have been recommended on this site really genuine hard working guys & no I don't work for them,

Andrew I shall treat you comment with the contempt it deserves.

Why do people have to attack other posters - you may not agree - but we all have our own views - Actually I have decided not to post or look at Liphook talkback anymore - why should I be subject to attacks from people I don't know.

Please note I do truly sympathize with the victims of the theft & the growing degradation of what was once a fantastic village to live in - sadly no more!

Bye everyone

Negligence

Insurers might also invalidate your policy if they find that you’ve acted negligently. This can include:
Leaving your keys in the ignition – Or leaving your car unlocked. If your car is stolen as a result of your failure to secure the vehicle your insurer may not be able to pay out.

Perhaps mentioning it on here in the public eye is not such a good idea

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Dawn Hoskins (16th Aug 2018 - 12:47:44)

Wowsers!
The word guttersnipe has been common parlance for centuries. Don't young people read these days? Maybe English comprehension isn't taught the way it used to be? Perhaps the English language we were taught as children is not being passed on to the younger generations?

It really worries me that the 'text-speak' generation of people who never read newspapers or pick up anything more taxing that OK magazine are effectively reducing the word-pool and will be passing that severely reduced word-pool on to their children.

The fact that this poster accused someone of defaming a business when they were using a commonly known English word demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge of our beautiful and demonstrative language. It is an embarrassment and an indictment on the education system as a whole. Someone has been pushed through the sausage-machine of our education system with no apparent knowledge of the vast number of word-choices that exist.

As youngsters, we would be given a dictionary and told to look at one column a day and try to find a way to include those words (often obscure) into our sentences. I was not alone in this - many of my school buddies had to do the same within their families. We groaned about it at the time thinking how 'hard-done-by' we were to be given what was effectively 'extra' homework - but it taught us the breadth and depth of the language of our country.

The poster who criticized the OP for choosing this, quite fitting, adjective clearly would not have done so if they had realized it was a pre-existing word. Why would you make yourself look stupid on purpose - so I don't think they knew the word existed. This is even more sad to me than the fact that thieves are stealing things from vehicles. Not only do they not know a decent range of vocabulary - they don't know that they don't know!

Obviously, I am cross that people think it is OK to steal things that they know aren't theirs. They know their actions are going to make innocent people feel violated - but they chose to act regardless of other peoples feelings. They don't care about the trauma they cause to other people. There have always been criminals and people with no morals - this is disconcerting and a grubby reality that we don't like to be faced with in our daily lives - but even criminals used to know the language of the country they lived in!!

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- AA (16th Aug 2018 - 13:48:04)

As I see it, this is only going to get more common in the future. The reality is police cutbacks mean that there are no resources to patrol small towns or villages, and when things are reported, they rarely show any interest in investigating.

I genuinely think we’ll hear of “private police forces” being set up in wealthy areas soon, as the public has essentially lost this vital service in many areas.

Maybe the time has come for cctv across the village?

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- F (16th Aug 2018 - 14:34:17)

Leaving a car unlocked is obviously a foolish thing to do, whether it be accidentally or not.

However, I fail to see that this justifies what is still legally theft, and furthermore morally nasty actions by the 2 perpetrators, of what seems to have for them been a night out stealing in Liphook.

Dear Readers,

With reference to the mention today about Police" cutbacks"

The police do have plenty of resoures!!! BUT they choose to use most of the resources and their staff for their own benefit and career advances.

For example, maybe you have noticed by now the endless flow of police cars ,during the working week, in Petersfield town centre?

The Police/ community officers usually wonder aimlessly into Waitrose then Tesco, often checking peoples baskets. Then they may drive around a bit to fill time. It is just a VERY expensive PR stunt in an area where people vote and have hugh infiuence

Would it not be great idea that these 5 to 6 police staff could actually patrol at night in areas where they would likely find a criminal., such as Liphook currently ?

Furthermore, has anyone seen the "Derby and Joan" style coffee mornings at the BP garage Peterfield ??Usually " resourcing 4 to 5 Police squad cars 8 to 10 Policeman!! How do they find the time in their busy schedule ??? What's the cost of the 30 minute coffee breaks just to drive there. Again they could patrol at night in selected areas where there is a likelihood of crime.

Or, God forbid, even work in a collaborative with Surrey and Sussex Police to stop the bank cash disposer robbers.

so NO we do not need a "private police force" as the person above suggested , we just need an effective, and focused force that has the community interest at it's core.

Sadly, we have something currently that blends the qualities and values of the Mafia, Dads Army & Masonic Lodge.

As a commity we need to work together to ensure we receive what we have already paid for and require, an effective Police Force.

There is no point in moaning and being an individual

Just to advise of a previous thread mentioning the finding of two sets of keys near to the fire station.
If anyone had keys stolen from their cars contact the person who found the keys, as they may be yours.

From the local PCSO

Longmoor Neighbourhood Policing Team have received 13 reports of theft from vehicles in Liphook. These incidents occurred overnight between 14th August 2018 and 15th August 2018. Entry was gained to unlocked vehicles where electrical and other items were stolen.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents of the below advice to prevent this crime from happening and to keep your property safe.

When leaving your car, close all windows and lock your car.
Upon locking your vehicle try your car door to ensure it is actually locked.
Park your car in an attended car park.
Look for public car parks approved by the Park Mark scheme.
When parking at home, use your garage. If you don't have a garage, park in a well-lit area.
Don't leave anything on display in your vehicle.
Take all your personal possessions with you.
Remove sat nav holders and visible sat nav ring marks from windscreens.
Leave the glove box open to show there's nothing inside.
Fit an alarm or immobiliser to your car.
Record the details of your property on the Immobilise website.
Do not store your car's documents in the car.
Secure your wheels using locking wheel nuts.
More information about alarms can be found on the Thatcham and Sold Secure websites.

Sensible advice from the Police, but I also read into it that we are basically on our own in terms of policing!

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- charles (17th Aug 2018 - 14:44:24)

Many thanks to the Police Community Officer in stating the obvious and cutting and pasting it to us.

Still think it would be more effective to redeploy the Police staff endingly and aimlessly driving around the center of Petersfield during the working day and get them redeployed in doing night patrols where there are clearly criminals! Such as Liphook perhaps?

Only last year one of the community police officer's was so bored Patrolling Waitrose, Petersfield, he actually followed my wife around Waitrose for a short period and was staring at her.

Just redeploy and get them doing something constructive, such patrolling Liphook at night

I have been so shocked and disappointed at the misuse of resources, especially in Petersfied ares I videoed/phot'd them endless patrolling Tesco's , Waitrose. and doing other irrelevant, time wasting activities.

This misuse of police resources is so wrong on so many levels. One obvious point is that Tesco's and Waitrose have excellent security and security staff and do not request and require additional state funded security in the form Police that you and I pay for.

Re: car break in Silent Garden
- Charles (17th Aug 2018 - 20:02:01)

Yes , as the second above comment suggests we are on are own !!

UNLESS we are working in a collaborative way, the police will carry on self serving.and taking the Micky

They look after their own interests NOT YOURS generally

- Alison (19th Aug 2018 - 19:57:31)

My car was also broken into on Wednesday night and it was definitely locked. Luckily nothing was taken.
