Removal of double yellow lines
- Paul (22nd Jul 2018 - 21:58:59)

Interesting to see that the council have marked up the double yellow lines in front of Edmonton Way for 'removal' as it says in paint on the road.

That means that those residents who park on the double yellow's will finally be able to do so legitimately.

And it also means that drivers will soon be able to park there for the train station - as they used to do, before Edmonton Way was built.

Thoughts?

They are making way ready for all the drivers of the new houses in Bordon that need to use the train!!

Hopefully they will put double yellow lines on the Portsmouth Road, far more sensible for commuters to park along Edmonton Way. Should also put some along Headley Road as well

As you say commuters will be able to park there along with the residents on the front. Being a resident further in the development, I don’t mind commuters parking there and I agree it would be better than them parking on Portsmouth road as the road Canada way isn’t used as much so the traffic is less. Not that I would have a choice but as someone who uses the road daily it would be nice to have some passing spots. That’s my only thoughts on it but I’m sure it will be ok

@ Rachael - clearly far more sensible for commuters to park along Edmonton Way (actually, it's Canada Way), opposite a park where children play.......

Now here is a sensible suggestion - knock down Countrywide and make that whole area another car park for the train station. That way no one needs to be inconvenienced....

- Rölli (25th Jul 2018 - 11:55:38)

@ Debbie.

Countrywide store premises is privately owned and has value, simply to knock it down and build a car park is a somewhat naïve statement.

Where will the money come from to purchase the land off the owner? Who will fund such a idea when there will be no financial return? The other premises all are private land that would need to be purchased as well, what you are suggesting makes no financial sense!

@ Roili -

Thanks for the feedback......

Perhaps Southwestern trains could purchase the land.

Forgive my clear stupidity, but they could buy the land then charge for the spaces to create more car-parking - just a thought.....they might then get a financial return.

In any case, I vote the double yellows stay on Canada Way, I don't really care where commuters park, so long as they don't inconvenience me!

To be fair, commuters would do well to find a space on Edmonton Way between the builders, residents and now caravan!!! that park outside their spaces!

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Rachael (25th Jul 2018 - 21:40:58)

@ Debbie

Why would the landowners sell at below market value to south west trains to create a car park when eventually they will sell to developers for £millions more for residential housing. Do the maths!

Oh I thought the caravan had come from the fun fair !

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Sarah (26th Jul 2018 - 23:16:57)

Caravans aren’t allowed-it was in the contracts when purchasing -no storage for mobile homes so it is worth seeing if it has gone once the fun fair has after the weekend

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Resident (27th Jul 2018 - 07:20:51)

The caravan was around last week too - before the fair arrived. Sadly some people don't actually care about rules!

Removal of the lines won't help residents on Canada way as it will just promote free parking for commuters and it's only going to get worse as more houses are built. The problem before they were added was how close people parked to junctions. Several times a week commuters would park right on the junction out of Edmonton Way, making it impossible to see anything coming. This was before the building works started as well so could make for interesting manoeuvres of it happens again with all the very large vehicles coming in and out.

The caravan is parked in the visitors bay so could be anyone’s

The planning laws in semi-rural areas are so bloody stupid it constantly dumbfounds me.

In this area, we can't rely on buses etc so every house is BOUND to have a minimum of two cars (not including grown children and visitors).

Don't blame the house owners - blame your town planners for taking the sweeteners and allowing the houses to be built without adequate parking and with garages too small to get a car into.

It is bloody stupid and has a 100% guaranteed result.

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Maple (27th Jul 2018 - 10:07:16)

Do they not know how many parking spaces come with a property before they move in?

I don't think a caravan should be in a visitors bay. I'm sure this development has a management company who could deal with it.

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Dawn Hoskins (27th Jul 2018 - 11:11:51)

@Maple
When there aren't enough houses for sale you buy what is available. If everything available has insufficient parking - you just have to go with it.

The same parking chaos has resulted from every new development but there is not 'joined-up' thinking between highways and housebuilding.

One is funded by the government and one is a money making business out to grab every penny that they can. I can assure you that Wimpy (or whoever) don't give a fork about what the roads are going to look like after they've sold all the properties and buggered off.

Our town planners and district councilors should care and could put conditions of the sites - but they don't?

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- oldie (27th Jul 2018 - 16:11:25)

Dawn, I've had a quick look on Rightmove (which shows a selection of houses for sale in central Liphook at the moment). Between three hundred and half a million (about the prices on these estates) there are 45 houses for sale, about half have multiple off road parking places, half don't. So people must be able to make a decision before they buy.

Re: Removal of double yellow lines
- Dawn Hoskins (28th Jul 2018 - 18:37:50)

@Oldie, yes they decide to buy the most they can for the least that they can. Then park the extra cars on the road which is generally too narrow. All the time the planners and our councilors let the private building companies build in this way then all the neighborhood will suffer in the same way. Cars parked up all over the place and trouble for emergency vehicles to access homes that need them. You only have to look at the other thread here to see how upset people get about cars being parked where they shouldn't.
