Freezing Runner Beans
- Mr Paddy's Daddy (19th Jul 2018 - 10:39:22)

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to successfully freeze Runner Beans which have been sliced lengthwise ( using a slicing gadget where you pull the beans through ) rather than cutting them crosswise into diamond shapes ~ and if it is, how long do they need to be blanched ?

Many thanks for any advice

Yes possible to freeze only put into boiling water quickly and then bring to boil again less than a minute I would estimate

Yes it is possible, and very simple.
I've been freezing beans every year for more years than I can remember.
We always grow too many, and our family get all they want too !
Really good to have for the Winter months.

Just a minute of blanching, and I freeze mine flat, once cooled, on a tray to start, and then bag up once frozen. That way you can easily just take out a few when wanted.

It seems to be a good year for them, loads on already.!!

Happy days.

Follow advice above AND don't cook them too long when you wish to use them.

One year I had so many I cut them all up including the stringy ones and made soup/puree to add to stews and casseroles - took a bit of straining but they had great flavour.
