We had a real problem when we wanted to get pre-test lessons. There seems to be a shortage in the area which means that anyone that any good has a 3 - 6 month waiting time.
The guy we went with was rubbish - zero communication skills, no information given either during the lessons or after about was was right what was wrong how to improve etc.
In the end, I just got him insured on my car and taught him myself and he did the test in my car (passed 1st time!)

Hey Dawn, perhaps you ought to train to be a Driving Instructor!

LOL. My Dad is a racing driver - I learned to drive when I was about 7 and grew up under a car bonnet!
I'm far too busy to teach driving although with the correct tuition anyone can do it. I have taught deaf colleagues successfully as they can't find driving instructors that have BSL language skills (or driving test examiners).
I insist that all my sons have black boxes - drives other drivers MAD with rage to stick to the speed limit, but teaches them to calculate their journey times correctly - so no 'stress-speeding' is required.
Still managed to have one son who was an insurance statistic but overall pretty successful on the driving front. All passed the first time but I made them all take the tyres off and put them back, show me how to fill the water, check the oil, tell me what oil type, what air pressure, change wiper blades, work the air hoses at the petrol stations, parallel park, reverse park, PROPER 3_POINT turn, control a skid, and pay for RAC cover before I booked them in for their tests. Sadly - driving instructors don't cover most of that - which means most kids are screwed when they get in the car on their own for the first time (especially the skidding on ice).
