Liphook needs a ringroad

Liphook doesn’t need a secondary school that’s attended by circa 1500 pupils and a major supermarket in the middle of it. Move them both and problem solved or at the very least, eased considerably. Oh and people indicating at roundabouts would also help.

Karen, I would argue that a town/village with a population of getting on for 10,000 people absolutely should have schools and a supermarket. Getting rid of them so drivers can go carelessly through the centre doesn't make sense at all. Would it not also be counter-intuitive to put community facilities elsewhere forcing more people into their cars? At least by having these in the centre of Liphook means that shoppers/students who live close by or catch the train can walk there. Plenty do - just go by Bohunt at 8.30am.

It is the quality of the driving through the village that is the problem (which you have also mentioned, I agree).

I do hope all involved in the accident are OK.

All valid points.

May I add the ill-judged / antisociable delivery trucks stopping on the road or part-pavement "just for a second". Could recipients of deliveries instruct their suppliers to park correctly and avoid rush hours? This is also in the interest of those very recipients.

I hope Liphook's reputation as a village with increasing traffic issues would resonate far enough to put further incomers from moving in.

I always said it was a b——y stupid place to build bohunt school, and the idiot that decided to build a pelican crossing between two mini roundabouts within 40 yards obviously did not live in the village! That is what is wrong with traffic in the square! Only my opinion! Sainsbury’s is the bane of the village as well! Only my opinion!

Looked like a minor fender bender.

I heard on the travel that the driver of a large lorry had text in to say he'd broken down in the square. The trouble is is that there is no way of getting from 1 side of Liphook to the other without going through the square

I think we need to realise Liphook is growing and surrounding areas particularly Bordon are going to increase the amount of traffic going to Liphook for schools and station and some extra road need to be built to avoid the square. An obvious one would be a connecting road from Portsmouth road to Haslemere road between library and rec.

If you think it is bad now. With the ever increasing size of Old Thorns becoming a village in it's own right, with 51 new apartments/flats coming online. Then the new Oak Park Taylor Wimpey development connectinginto longmoor road.

i remember driving through liphook 30 years ago

place was gridlocked every day

then the A3 was completed and i never went through liphook again until we moved here

i think any right minded would agree we need more places for people to live. a home should be a human right, the same as a fair trial or freedom.

you're not going to get the investment in schools and highways under the tories. just aint gonna happen.

Anyone else enjoying the fact schools are on holiday - Much more sensible driving through the village - Lot less traffic congestion, - Makes me think Sainsbury's is not the problem as some suggest - but more likely school traffic?
It was almost a pleasure to drive to work this morning. Maybe staggered starting times for the schools in the area may help??
Also substanial fall in Parking on Portsmouth Road always thought that was Commuter traffic for the Station but maybe I've been wrong.

I too remember when the A3 went through the centre of Liphook. Crossing the road was easy as you just had to walk round the stationary cars.
On a serious note, the local neighbourhood plan attempts to address the issue of cars crossing central Liphook, with some good potential suggestions. Unfortunately, the current totally chaotic planning system (local and national) seems hell bent on preventing any progress on infrastructure.

These days the infastructure can only happen if developers pay for most or at least the major portion of it, if you look at Bordon and other developing towns, new houses are always built along the new road. Thats the way it is done. The local authorities do not pay for it anymore.
More houses means more trafic, more children needing school places.
The square has been quiet in half term lovely to drive through it. The previous poster is right, stagger the parents dropping off times or allow a park and walk field somewhere for the school.
