Britannia Parking/Anchor Car Park
- P Weyland (25th Apr 2018 - 09:42:26)

Had a final demand notice for parking fine from a stay in the Anchor Car park that I have allegedly parked at!

The letter didn't specify times/dates.

Cant think the last time I parked there, definitely over 6 months ago and the only time I park there is when I'm actually using the Anchor.

Best to ignore it and not communicate with them?

Anyone else received similar letters from Britannia Parking?

There is a device behind the bar which records the number plates on cars entering and leaving the car park, could someone else have used the car? There should surely be some date and time somewhere on the letter. Maybe show the letter to the pub staff who could shed some light on it for you.

Ignore it. I received a similar parking fine from a company called Premier Parking for overstaying by 14 minutes in Homebase Godalming. They were persistent, threatening court action but in the end they gave up. To take you to court they have to prove who was driving and if you don't respond they cannot do that.
Don't give in!

It is worth looking up the current law in private carparks as it did change recently to being the actual car owners' responsibility. Used to be different, I know. It does depend on the actual enforcement company as well what action they eventually take, or not!

Hi,

I got a ticket from a parking company for parking on private land. I ignored the notice and the seven reminders and in the end they went away. Be warned - if you contact or you write to them they then have your details and will pursue you!!!

One thing to mention is that Private parking companies try to make their letters look like official penalty notices (PCN's) when they are really designed to intimidate you into paying. Don't be mislead by this.

Here is some info from the Internet ...

Parking tickets issued on private land (The Anchor, Sainsbury's, etc) are different to those issued in public places maintained by local authorities.

Parking Tickets for parking on private land are not backed up by law. Instead, they are invoices for a breach of contract.

While drivers have to obey the rules on parking, firms need to make sure parking restrictions are very clear, and people are treated fairly.

If the car park operator wants to force you to pay, they will need to take you to the civil court, which is costly and time-consuming for them. They can only do this if they have your details, or those of the driver so its best not to contact them even if you do receive an Invoice!

If the car park operator does take you to court and wins, you then have pay the costs in addition to the original charge.

If you do get a ticket, I am unsure if its the vehicle or the driver that's responsible? Either way I would ignore it and any reminders that follow.

Thanks all. Update is that my Wife phoned the Anchor and said bring the letter in and they will clear it on the system.

There was a date on letter and she had been there for a meal with friends. She definitely wasn't parked there for 4 hours though!

As all the above have said it isn't a parking fine but an invoice. I don't know how persistent they are with regards to chasing and enforcing and not wanting to concern you but a friend of a friend parked in Farnborough got one of these 'tickets' which he ignored and they went away, only to find out months and months down the line when he applied for credit that the company had issued him with a CCJ for an unpaid invoice.

Best thing is to get a date and time for when you parked there and then get as much evidence to prove otherwise (petrol receipt or something else proving your car couldn't be there at that time etc) submit an appeal and if that gets rejected you can try through Popla
