Lloyds Bank Closure
- Dave (2nd Jun 2023  15:56:50)

So after years of speculation Lloyds Bank have finally confirmed our last bank in Liphook is to close.

www.lloydsbank.com/contact-us/branch-closures

Terrible shame, especially for the older members of our community who do not use Internet banking.

How sad, my late uncle Norman Salter was assistant manager for decades.

Maybe some of us older folk remember him.

Yes I remember him when I worked at moss garage. That was back in the late fifties and sixties . He had an Austin healey sprite frog eye. Lovely man . Tony Salter son I believe.

It seems that bank branches have all but disappeared nowadays. When I moved here nearly 40 years ago, Liphook had three banks plus a building society, Bordon also had three banks and Grayshott had two. And soon there'll be none. It's a sign of the times I'm afraid.

This was all warned about in the WEF plans for the Great Reset in 2030. All part of the big scale plan to bring in CBDC. Money is going and digital money is coming in so no banks will be needed. Conspiracy or not its happening before our very eyes, whether you like it or not. Banks are closing left, right and centre.

It is sad to hear the branch is closing but one has to say it was just a matter of time with all the small branches all over closing.

But, it has to be said we only have ourselves to blame with people doing everything online and not using cash, I still try to use cash whenever possible and will refuse on principle to use any shop who doesn't accept cash.

so people keep using cash, don't let it go

Yes, cash is king. Keep using it that way people are kept in jobs too. There will be no banks left anywhere at this rate. Everyone finds online and using cards so much more convenient. Boycott shops that refuse it. Its legal tender after all

So, Lloyds thank you for now loosing our last bank in our village (lots of swear words)
Such a shame for the very polite, friendly and helpful staff at Liphook.

Where will local businesses handling cash now go?
Petersfield or Haslemere? There’s at least 10-15 minutes added to the drive (if your drive) more costs
Then there is parking … more costs

Any estate agents looking to set up, (no) we have a fair amount ….
We have coffee shops and multiple dentists.
We have a cinema (smiley face here)
A good selection of pubs

Good luck boycotting cashless businesses! A couple of more years you will have absolutely no-where to shop (or visit). Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda have all announced in recent months they will be cashless by 2025.

Also meant to add that after the misery of the white elephant in our village that was the empty Anchor Garage and the joy of its transformation into the lovely living room cinema, we are probably destined to have years of the Lloyds Bank building sitting empty and deteriorating right in the centre of the village:-((

The information available clearly states ‘They have advised that a community banker will have set hours in a space in the local area, such as a library. They will be there to spend time with customers helping them with their banking enquiries. This new service will be set up shortly’.

Fingers crossed this new proposed service is available in the village itself and alleviates some of the concerns mentioned.

Just a point of information the actual closure date is 21 September 2023.

Disappointed to hear about Lloyds Liphook closure.

As far as comments on cashless future go, it's a given that traders won't want to carry on taking cash because it's becoming more difficult to use it/ dispose of it. The offer that you can still take your cash to Petersfield or Farnham isn't an incentive in any time, cost or pollution way.

Good luck to those opting not to shop at cashless retailers- the hunger pangs will set in and you'll probably end up doing online shopping................... or online banking in order to eat.

For my part I'll be setting up a money laundering business- cash only, of course!!

Hi,
The cost of running a bricks and mortar business in any location including banks in U.K. is almost prohibitive.
Business rates, possible rent of premises, staff costs, and energy bills.
This is all before making a penny of profit to exist.

I know there are needs for local businesses. Also the elderly, that do not use modern banking communications for their financial requirements.

Most people of a working age do not visit banks, or rarely, therefore they cannot continue their presence locally.
