Proposal
- Louis (5th Jul 2020  14:00:28)

First of, let's start with our local parks.

People have been complaining of Anti-Social Behaviour for far too long so let's propose something here first and then propose it to the state.

Replace the Skate Park, give people a reason to respect to it. When I was in Yr 6 about 6 years ago now, we were told they were planning on replacing the Skate Park that didn't happen and this is what has happened to it.

The Recreation Ground has got plenty of space for an outdoor gym, setting up appropriate lighting that covers the gym and clubhouse will help prevent vandalism etc.

Radford Park, replacing the old Works Depot with a Cafe which can be ran by volunteers and/or part time staff. With the profits of the Cafe that can be returned back to the local community for repairs on the clubhouse or to Radford Park with repairs to the footpaths or footbridges. Picnic benches can also be put on the green at Radford promoting more families and friend groups to go up there.

Roads/ Cycle Routes/ Bus Routes

Establishing a one-way system around school and putting in Traffic Calming measures will help prevent people from speeding and make them use common sense.

Having an adequate bus service that runs weekends and every hour instead of every 2 hours will also help allow people to get out and explore the county.

Cycle Routes, with the one-way systems putting in cycling routes and make the footpath wider to allow prams/pushchairs/wheelchairs to stay on the path. Establishing safe cycle routes to other villages/towns such Bordon, Haslemere, Liss and more. Without having to cycle next to car drivers going in excess of 40mph.

This is one proposal that is not even started. What are your opinions?

The previous new skate park proposal was costed at £120,000 and it will no doubt be much greater today, is this really the correct allocation of money to facilitate a few kids in Liphook at a probable cost of £5000 per actual skater?

The football club for example trains more children in a year than have ever used the skate park in 20 years, yet no one is requesting £120-150k out of the local budget for football.

The primary issue with the skate park is not the skaters of which there are few, but the people who use it as a hang out, play loud music, drink alcohol, take drugs etc. So what is actually requires is not a new stakepark but to move the skatepark away from the hidden back rec to somewhere more visible and install CCTV and or lock the place up, you dont see anyone causing anti social behavior issues in the tennis courts! Why... its locked up.

Louis - if you're year 12 or thereabouts, these are fantastic ideas! Have you considered making your proposals to the parish council as a group of young people with your friends?

Everyone else - we should be listening to the young people in our community, not knocking them down when they come forward with ideas. Make their own areas places they can be proud of and come together to look after.

Well done Louis - don't be put off what the losers tell you on here. Be pro-active and do your best to get some of your ideas off the ground.

Some good ideas, especially outdoor gym and improving infrastructure. I don't think there would be much support for skate park improvements, particularly as there is a spanking new one at Bordon. (according to my daughter very good too), but there isn't an easy way for young people to get there from Liphook via public transport.

Re: Proposal

Louis, many many great idea's, I really like your enthusiasm so good luck and keep out this energy, however I would remove the SkatePark from your idea's entirely and focus on all the others.

There is no appetite for a new SkatePark and its newness is only going to attract more idiots to it, I remember when the SkatePark was new, it had many other things around it, all of them ruined, burned and vandalized,

I have just got back from my dog walk and currently at the SkatePark is 5-6 lads approx 16 smoking joints and drinking bottles of bud, I bet when I walk past in the morning those bud bottles will be smashed all over the place.

Get rid of the SkatePark, and if ever another is built then build it over by the millennium green and point cameras on it.... that will clean this issue up.

Well said Carl and well proposed Louis. We need more of this positive attitude and good ideas. Not everything will work but some just might.

Re: Proposal

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with proposing this to the parish it's just an idea at the moment.

For the Skatepark, would it better if it was demolished and replaced with a Basketball Court or another sports facility with lighting and fencing with a gate that can be locked at night? I personally don't want to take away a facility and not replace with another facility.

Thank You for your current responses they are appreciated.

Re: Proposal

Some good ideas there Louis I particularly like the idea of the outdoor gym, some ot the other ideas though are not able to be independently funded by our local Parish council, eg roads cycle ways and buses are funded by the County Council in Winchester. You are a politician in waiting. The derelict building in Radford Park certainly needs looking at,

the building is not however in the right place to make a profit, because it is not on the way to anywhere for cars, white van drivers builders etc to have know it is there, but some ideas are good.

Re: Proposal
- Jane (5th Jul 2020  21:30:14)

The locking at night is critical, and its critical "before" any approval, all to often these sorts of things are agreed only to find once the facility is built they run out of money for the fence/lights/locks and that part never happens which is a recipe for disaster and only annoys everyone.
Any new facility in the back rec needs a fence and it needs someone happy to lock it up at dark every day.

As another poster highlighted, there is no such issues with the tennis courts or even the bowling club, as they are under lock and key.
Give the kids something to use in daylight but close it off from the idiots whom will only break it at night time.

Good ideas
A Parish Councillor for the future maybe

Re: Proposal

Stay as you are, you don’t need to hold the title of politician or councillor to voice or indeed effect positive changes.

The outdoor gym is a brilliant idea and would be appreciated by many.
