Willows Nursery Building!
- Anon2 (13th Feb 2019  09:01:53)

I cannot believe what I read in the newspaper that councillors have decided the building should not be demolished. I went to the meeting at which we were all told it had to be demolished immediately because of a survey report. Councillors were adamant about that. A local builder was going to repair the building paid for by Willows Nursery but the Council.wouldnt let that happen. I also heard that the Charity Commision said there was no reason why it could not continue to be a Nursery. Councillors obviously failed to do their homework properly before making their decision. Those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. Those poor ladies who ran the Nursery and were evicted when they need not have been. They deserve some compensation for what they went through, and the money they will have lost. More importantly, we lost a fantastic nursery school.

Well don't believe the newspaper cos it's not true! The old Willows is still planned to be demolished. It's only the big building next to it that's going to be done up. It's in the council minutes.

It was decided by the Recreation committee to demolish what was the Willows nursery building and refurbish the tractor shed.

[note]BUILDINGS AT THE WAR MEMORIAL RECREATION GROUND
The EO explained that the Working Party had met and consider several options for the buildings. It had been agreed that the preferred option was to demolish the former Willows Building and refurbish the tractor shed and Beacon building above. This was the most cost effective solution and the WM Recreation Ground Trustees were happy with this proposal. A budget of £2,000 had already been agreed by the Executive Officer in consultation with the chairman under delegated authority. This was to fund the Architects to look at the feasibility of the project for final approval. The project and budget would need to be approved at the next meeting of the Finance & Policy Committee in March 2019.
Decision: The above proposal was agreed.

How ridiculous is that proposal? New sheds for tractors? Surely with all of the money set aside in EHDC’s coffers from developers contributions that building could be rebuilt as the community facility we could all really do with. Somewhere for the nursery school to use as well as lots of others I’m sure.
Maybe tractors are more deserving of new facilities than children and other social groups and clubs!
