Re-upholstering dining chairs
- Alan (28th Nov 2025 - 09:38:49)

We have 6 solidly constructed chairs on which the 'leather' covering is starting to crack and peel away.

Are there any local companies that can re-upholster them in a hardwearing fabric ?

It would be ashame to dispose of them and just replace with cheap chairs.

Try The Upholstery Yard in Blackmoor, a friend used them and was very happy. www.theupholsteryyard.co.uk

Same happened to our chairs. I replaced them myself. Brought leatherette from Dunelm. Used one of the old seat covers as a template. Each chair had approx 75 staples holding the old cover on so a staple remover is a must. They turned out great.

Thanks DeeBee

I emailed them 4 weeks ago and pretty sure I got no response. I've now used the contact form on their site and will follow up with a call next week.

Fingers crossed.

'Not a Local' - not sure my skills are upto a DIY job - but might be tempted.

Hello Alan,

I reupholstered 6 dining chairs exactly as a previous poster did. It is not that difficult. Remove an existing cover and use as a template.

I would cut the new fabric slightly larger as the original will have shrunk

You will find upholstery fabric easier than leatherette

Buy a staple remover for upholstery, about £6 on Amazon

Hire an electric staple gun

Have fun.
