Winter fuel money - Steve wilson (21st Nov 2025 17:47:34)
I think it's brilliant my friend doesn't need the £200 paid to retired people so donated the money to Liphook food bank they then get gift aid so ended up with £250 😊 hope there are more people that are able to do the same.

Sounds wonderful and all due respect to your friend.
In my case DWP have recently sent me £200 but, as I understand it, they will decide if I am entitled to it when I submit my next self assessment tax return............ ie some time after receiving it!!
If they decide I'm not entitled, it will be reclaimed through my tax liability next time around.
I'm currently wondering if I should bill DWP and HMRC £200 for doing the rest of their job I wasn't already doing before this happened. If so, would I be able to claim tax relief as charity giving?
Advice please?

Presumably with the lifting of the two child benefit cap and all of Mr Starmer's new school breakfast clubs, demands on all food banks should drop off significantly. But will the food bank demographic now shift from Vicki Pollard and her six kids by six different men to pensioners and hard working people who are being taxed even more.

I’m with you D would have been much better to have given the pensioners a good rise in their pensions as well as the winter fuel allowance. Instead of giving more benefits to single mothers what I can’t understand is where are the fathers.
