It might be worth taking the debit card to the bank especially if it is a Lloyds debit card - they should be able to help.

The card will show the 6 digit sort code which is the branch where the account is registered, that can be easily found on the internet, post to the branch and they'll sort it.

Just to advise owner has now been found!! Fortunately. I cancelled it and now have a new one BUT regardless thank you so very, very much to the people who found it and tried to track me down. Honesty so rare it certainly deserves praise where possible. Thanks again. Glynis
