Grass on village green
- w (18th Mar 2015 - 15:45:31)

I noticed that an area of grass has been dug up on the village green - just wondered if they are going to plant bulbs etc bearing in mind that is where the funfair vehicles drive up and over to get on the grass!

The beds being cleared on the western edge of the Millennium Green are being prepared as wild flower beds.

As the work is being carried out by the liphook in Bloom team I feel sure we can look forward to some colourful displays later in the year.

A twenty foot gap has been maintained to allow vehicle access on to the green.

Fab! Will look forward to the wildflowers.

Will be nice to see more wildflowers in the village, the council seems to enjoy chopping down all the beautiful verges just as they're coming into their prime.

(don't want to start a roadside visibility debate, the verges I was sad to see massacred were not in a place where they'd cause traffic problems, and don't get me started on the money wasted by the council spraying dangerous chemical 'weedkillers' all over the verges).

Brilliant - thanks for replies. I too look forward to seeing wild flowers. Liphook in Bloom do a brilliant job - well done.

I have just had my first chance to see the 2 new areas being prepared for flower beds and like many I look forward to seeing the lovely display that the Liphook in Bloom team provide.
My only concern is that the gap provided for the Fair vehicles is in my experience not enough due to the angle they would need to swing across the road and the fact there are lamp posts and the roundabout too close I can see this being an issue!
Better to get this sorted out now than when so much hard work has been done! The first bed coming from Sainsburys would benefit from being moved more to the Millennium Hall and angled differently.

I noticed the grass was being mowed around the above mentioned `flower beds` - does anyone know if they are staying there or not bearing in mind of the fun fair vehicles etc etc.
