Drainage meeting with Thames Water
- Trevor Maroney (6th Nov 2014 - 17:50:13)

A small meeting has been arranged by the Parish Council with Thames Water and a panel of experienced representatives to discuss and find solutions to the current problems with the main (sewage) system in Liphook. They will also be considering how new housing developments can be linked to the present drainage system without causing further contaminated flooding.

If you have experienced such flooding over the past few years or know of anyone else who has suffered we would like to hear from you within the next 7 days. Please contact me at tmaroney17@gmail.com. Thank you.

I have received reports on contaminated flooding affecting residents in Griggs Green, Longmoor Road and pollution in Midhurst Road so far. Thank you.

Are there any other areas were contaminated flooding occurs?

We are on the Berg estate and have had ongoing issues with drains since moving here 18 years ago! At least twice a year, the main drain blocks and we have had instances where we have sewage coming out of the drains on to our garden. We have kept records of the dates of all the calls toThames Water over the years.
The contractors who are sent out to resolve the immediate problem tell us that they know what they are asked to do by the water company is not a permanent fix and say that Thames Water are aware of this because each time there is a call out the contractors send them a report with their recommendations. We know of two other households in our street who have issues with sewage backing up. I dread to think what will happen if a further 100 or so properties are connected to the existing drainage system upstream!

If you have experienced contaminated flooding this is you last chance to let me know before the meeting with Thames water. Don't forget I do need full details on when and where it occurred by email. My contact details are shown above.

I have been reading with interest the new amended plans for the sewerage on the Bohunt Manor (South Downs National Park) application.

Thames water have said it is not their responsibility and that the developer must pay for fully adequate surface water drainage and sewerage facilities. GVI's first attempt re:sewage was roundly condemned by all concerned and their second attempt still seems a long way off the mark.

Q: Are there any sewerage experts in the village that can comment on this massive 'holding tank' scenario?
Q: What does the Parish Plan say about the inadequate sewerage provisions in the area? I have tried to look at it but not found the relevant section yet.

I'm not sure if the amended details submitted by GVI mean that everyone who objected should do so again, but in light of them preparing and distributing pre-paid tick sheets I suspect that it does.

I have therefore sent in another objection to this new 'number', just in case the first one no longer counts. Belt and braces and all that!

There is indeed a thread (with photos) of the sewage spilling over the pavement and road in Portsmouth road.
