Cudos to our own villagers in the
- Finchie (28th Mar 2009 - 11:49:58)

www.cape-epic.com

Cape Epic: An 8 DAY OFF-ROAD mountain bike race in South Africa, starting at the foot of table mountain and then along the Western Cape. Each team consisting of 2 riders.

Our very own Liphook Crankers:
Crankers Team: Rob Macdonald and Ion Hobbs
Fat Face Team: Jeremy Smith and Tom Starr

Last message from Helen was that they have "tired legs, a torn ankle ligament, suffering dehydration and sickness" "conditions are tough and very hot".

Come on you jessies - stop whinging. You're nearly there !!

The last stage is today. Good Luck Guys. I take my cycling helmet off to you. If you make it, the well earned beers are on me. And if you don't - they still are !!

Prologue: 17km, Climb 650m
Stage 1: 112km, Climb 2729m
Stage 2: 110km Climb 1527m
Stage 3: 73km, Climb 1976m
Stage 4: 114km, Climb 2202m
Stage 5: 111km, Climb 2233m
Stage 6: 86km, Climb 1546m
Stage 7: 60km, Climb 1760m

To put this in perspective, Gibbet Hill (high point at the punchbowl) is all of 272m.

In other words, this is the same as 17 LIBDA bike rides and 54 climbs up Gibbet Hill. ALL OFF ROAD.

All this typing has made me tired, now where are the sky controls !

Cheers, Finchie

RESPECT.

The boys did it !!!

We should have a welcome home drink on their return. I know at least one who did not let a drop of alcohol pass his lips for at least 6 weeks beforehand - he will be the one on the floor after 3 pints !

Cheers, Finchie

I've been to Cape Town, and the terrain is not the kindest, especially on two wheels!

Very well done to them, great effort.
