Cockapoo puppies
- adam robinson (17th Feb 2018 - 18:09:26)
Hi All,
We are interested in looking into possibly getting a cockapoo puppy but not sure where to start in terms of breeders in the area, dos anyone already have one/know of a breeder we can visit to see what it would be like to own one of these dogs?

As well as looking out for local ads, you could try a well known website - Pets4homes, which appears respectable and carries thousands of ads, but it's worth bearing in mind that Cockapoos and similar dogs are in fact mongrels despite what the people who breed them might say. And they are very expensive indeed for what is a mongrel dog. Also worth looking at rescue organisations - a lot of rescue dogs from Eastern Europe to be re-homed and they can make an excellent dog, but usually need a lot of work. Wife's son has got a lovely dog by that route. Having said what I have, we have a Sprocker Spaniel - a cross between a Cocker and a Springer. Best dog we have ever had and interestingly Hampshire Police got 2 Sprockers last year for specialist work.
Avoid at all cost puppy farms.

I live in Liphook and own two cockapoos that I am intending to breed in the next couple of weeks as my female is due in season any day now. I am not a professional breeder and this will be their one and only litter as I am breeding my two primarily to keep one myself. If successful, puppies will be born around the end of April.
Cockapoos make the most wonderful family pets, they are loving, socialable, great with other animals and small children and my two are very calm at home. Neither of mine molt hair BUT they do need good excercise and a fair bit of grooming to avoid their fur getting matted which isn’t easy in the winter as they love laying down in muddy puddles!

Just a heads up. Pets for Homes may be reputable, but does have some unscrupulous breeders selling on there. They hide the fact extremely well. Please be very careful.

I also have a cockapoo and he is a wonderful dog. It is worth remembering that there are various grades of what they call designer breeds (or as previously stated mongrels). The top grading according to the Kennel Club is F1 which is that the cockapoo comes from a pure breed poodle and cocker spaniel. A cockapoo bred with another cockapoo is not an f1.

I've always wondered ... If two cockapoos mate, could you, in theory, end up with a litter of poodles and cocker spaniels? This is a genuine question and is based purely on my own curiosity!
