Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (12th Dec 2017 - 22:36:57)

I just bought a tree from the lady in The Mead, I normally pay double that amount for the 8ft tree I've got!
Amazing.
Looks and smells lovely.
thanks

Re: Christmas Trees
- Rachel (13th Dec 2017 - 17:57:25)

Tell us more, dose she sell them and how many are left if she does?

Re: Christmas Trees
- Nicola (14th Dec 2017 - 14:32:14)

The family used to sell from a field at the top of Devils lane for many years but now sells from their front garden in the Mead. We've been buying our Christmas tree from him for well over 15 years, never had a bad tree yet.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (15th Dec 2017 - 00:08:23)

Well, I'm not sure how much more there is to tell? We were driving out to get a tree and I remembered I'd seen a hand-painted sign saying Trees for Sale in The Mead. Rather than drive to County Market I thought I'd give it a go.

Lots of trees all lined up along the fence, just choose the one you like the look of. Ours was very big and was still only £25 - about half the price that we paid last year in the garden centre.

My only complaint is that the Labrador has already chewed off the lower branch and I've had to secure it to the ceiling with a hook into the rafters to stop her trying to drag it out of the lounge. (Keep tree get a refund for the dog!)

Re: Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (18th Dec 2017 - 18:06:06)

I was worried that paying so little - I might get a carpet full of needles after a week - but still nothing.
Very impressed!

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maureen Holdsworth (18th Dec 2017 - 20:19:56)

Is running an Xmas tree selling business from what is a residential house permitted by the council? I expect they get a permit ? All the cars rolling up to load trees could annoy the neighbours. Also where are the trees sourced from ? Have you asked where they came from / why so cheap?

Re: Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (18th Dec 2017 - 23:04:27)

You'll have to go there and ask them these questions.

I imagine they use the same suppliers as every other seller in the area - but don't hike up the price?! Running a business from home doesn't normally require any sort of 'permit'. If you wanted a change of use to light industrial or something like that you would need to apply to the council, but selling trees for a few weeks in the year - I doubt it.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maztax (19th Dec 2017 - 09:52:05)

Yes Dawn, no doubt you didn't ask the questions...few do in such 'bargain' circumstances.

Are they totally legit was the question to you,& you side stepped it, - shame on you.

great way to support the black economy........!!,when the rest of us are paying our taxes,to support those who don't.

'I didn't know' does not stand up in a court of law!!

We are all responsible for our OWN actions, you too.

Re: Christmas Trees
- liz (19th Dec 2017 - 11:06:49)

Maztax

You don't know the trader is part of the 'black economy'. Do you give every trader a grilling on their sources/tax payments every time you visit? Most likely you are a disgruntled neighbour/competitor.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (19th Dec 2017 - 17:24:29)

Maztax - when you are prepared to use your real name and identify yourself - I am prepared to take your criticism. Until then - not.

These people have been selling trees every year for about a decade and if you want to slander or defame them perhaps you should check the facts yourself.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maztax (19th Dec 2017 - 23:08:29)

Liz,

no, & not at all in answer to your question. What a peculiar assumption.

That question should be directed to Dawn Hoskins, as it is she who failed to ask questions when she purchased, OR so she told the community on her previous post.

Perhaps you should read the whole thread, before commenting....

Re: Christmas Trees
- liz (20th Dec 2017 - 09:07:37)

Maztax

My point is why should Dawn have to ask? If I buy something cheap I may wonder about the quality but don't grill the outlet on their tax procedures if they are trading openly. From your reply, neither do you.

So I (and, I expect, others) can only assume their is another reason for your outburst. As I said, disgruntled neighbour /competitor most likely.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maztax (20th Dec 2017 - 09:34:55)

Liz,

if Dawn Hoskins is singing the praises of her supplier, the questions posed all very reasonable. She is drawing attention to this trader, and so the questions, are not that difficult to understand.

If there is nothing to hide, and there is complete transparency for the tree business, then no problem.
But....if this is 'under the radar' then this is cheating the system. Its known as the black economy, and I for one am NOT supporting the black economy.

Its really as simple as that !

We are all obliged when trading, to keep accounts, sales / purchases etc etc.
Its called law in this country.............and is regulated / policed by HMRC.
&
Here endeth the first lesson !!

Check it out maybe before retorting.

Re: Christmas Trees
- H (20th Dec 2017 - 10:47:25)

If you have issue with it, contact the seller directly instead of spouting off on here .
The family have suffered unimaginable loss this year and to be quite honest this is the worst possible time of year for them one would think. Not helped by you of course !
Merry Christmas you miserable person !!!

Re: Christmas Trees
- liz (20th Dec 2017 - 10:48:15)

Maztax

Once again you are missing the point. You do not know this is part of the 'black economy'. You only assume that because the product is described as cheap.

Have you made similar comments about other businesses recommended on here? Do you investigate every product that appears to be cheap? I doubt it and if not, why would you expect others to do so? I have recommended local businesses on this forum but have not felt the need to check out their tax affairs first.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Rachel (20th Dec 2017 - 11:53:57)

Bloody hell!
Maztax whoever you are hiding behind a fake name, lighten up you miserable woman!
If your so concerned about taxes, put "Strawman" into Youtube and chew on that!
Merry Christmas.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maztax (20th Dec 2017 - 13:04:58)

H - this forum is for 'spouting off on' as you so hilariously put it !

so many people are having a hard time, its NOT an excuse for cheating the system. I'm sure they're all 'lovely' people [ tongue in cheek].

&

Rachel- poor command of the English language, resorting to swearing....tut tut....not very constructive around the issue is it ??
Lost for REAL words hey....
& a Merry Xmas to you too dahling.

Re: Christmas Trees
- liz (20th Dec 2017 - 15:52:49)

Maztax

Perhaps you should be careful of accusing people of tax avoidance, black market dealings etc. etc. in a public domain.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Maztax (20th Dec 2017 - 16:06:03)

Liz,

nobody has accused anybody of anything as far as I' aware.
You are adding this yourself.........so far its been questions that were raised, and left unanswered / ignored,by those avoiding the issues after highlighting the issue.
But perhaps thats all a bit complex for you to understand.

I note that the original author Dawn Hoskins, chooses to ignore the questions, after telling everyone about this trader....very amusing.
Speaks volumes....they were simple questions requiring simple answers, but they were, rather avoided. Hmmm !

I rest my case.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Debbie (20th Dec 2017 - 16:07:24)

Another excellent Talkback thread.....

I believe Dawn was simply trying to put a positive message about a local trade/service she had used (something more of us should do, rather than using the site as a forum to moan, rather than discussing our issue with the provider directly).

Am sure Maztax regularly checks the tax affairs of their preferred retail outlet with HMRC and chooses to avoid those who have hit our headlines in the recent past. Indeed, am convinced the trading ethics are also scrupulously examined prior to purchase.

Happy Christmas Talkback - thank you all for the on-going amusement and entertainment.

Re: Christmas Trees
- Dawn Hoskins (21st Dec 2017 - 12:11:08)

Maztax

Hi, back after a short spell in hospital - where sadly I was not given access to my computer! There is a world out there, Maztax, where many more important things occur - so if a real human doesn't respond within a millisecond to your fake online persona - I assume they are living outside of their computer keyboard (as I do).

That said - even if I were not in hospital I would still not be responding to you.

It is quite simple! I made it clear in my earlier post - when you identify yourself and stop hiding behind a fake ID then I will take your criticisms - until then, not. You accuse people of dodging issues - well that is my issue and the condition upon which I will answer your criticisms - I have highlighted it and you have ignored it. Simple - though perhaps a bit complex for you to understand.

Also, if you are that interested in the 'in and outs' of this family's tax status - get off your a****, pop into the Mead and ask them yourself.

And as far as 'resting your case' I hope you rest it a bloody long way away from me, you are a sad scrooge.

Happy Christmas everyone else!

I will not be replying to Mastax - although at least now we can all have fun watching her being ignored, desperately baiting people to try to get a response, like a baby crying for attention.

Re: Christmas Trees
- helen (21st Dec 2017 - 12:51:11)

Maztax could be a man? Their tax business is their own, probably do not
have any overheads as a shop would, but do not take that as an assumption they are not paying any tax. I have a lot of friends who work
from home, ( it is allowed by the trading laws as long as there are not too many visitors to the house) and they pay a lot of tax!
There are more important things to worry about than that! Multinationals
who avoid tax for a start!

Re: Christmas Trees
- A.Comedy (21st Dec 2017 - 13:21:06)

Oh how comical !!
Dawns just retorted and thrown her toys out of her pram.....
I believe she had a sense of humour failure.

I couldn't write this better myself, it could even get laughs on a 'stand up' night.

Very amusing.....thanks Talkback for a great laugh, haven't chuckled so much for a while, [ all over Xmas trees] ...at least its seasonal rant.

Re: Christmas Trees
- liz (21st Dec 2017 - 16:21:37)

A. Comedy

Your syntax (oops excuse the pun!) seems remarkably familiar!

Re: Christmas Trees
- Bill (21st Dec 2017 - 17:32:53)

Is everybody in liphook busy body good for nothing idiots, people are selling Christmas trees not drugs
Yup yup you know the rest😂

Re: Christmas Trees
- Charlie (21st Dec 2017 - 22:59:02)

Just a thought, but does anybody else think that Maztax, whom is making unsubstantiated accusations, Mark from a previous thread whom went to great lengths to justify bullying an old lady, and A.Comedy may be the same obnoxious person?
