Passfield Power Cuts
- Dawn Hoskins (11th Dec 2017 - 17:01:19)

Well, it’s the time of year that Passfield residents have to put up with intermittent power cuts.

It’s bad enough that this happens every year - but even worse is the cacophony of house alarms that get set off by the power cuts.

PLEASE – if this is you can you arrange for your telephone number to be given to your neighbours so you can come home and turn it off!

The constant whah....whah…whah…is enough to drive even the most patient of us seriously nuts!

I'm afraid this is not a local problem but one affecting maybe a much wider area. The Grid system is currently stretched to capacity and we are importing electricity from France tonight.

Hello Dawn.

Sorry to hear about the nuisance activation of home alarms in your neighbourhood.

The solution is a lot simpler than calling the home owner every time there's a problem.

It sounds as if the backup batteries in the alarm system are no longer retaining their charge. This means the alarm will activate each time there is power failure.

Replacement of these batteries will solve the problem and is a relatively easy job for a security engineer.

It might be worth tactfully mentioning this to the property owners.

Wishing you peace (and quiet),

Giles

CG

The Grid is stretched but currently able to cope. We are importing electricity from Europe but nothing unusual in that. The problem is overhead power lines which (although much better than they used to be) are still vulnerable to adverse weather.

Giles - sound advice (no pun intended) but I don't know which house the alarm comes from. Let us hope that they read this themselves.

A lot of Whitehill and Bordon were affected yesterday as well - I don't know about Liphook?

It was the business centre alarm.

Oh, that's interesting N, I always thought it was coming from either Eleanor Close or The Lyndons.
thanks - I'll call them next time and tell them to disconnect it during the winter days if we are having a spate of cuts.

It is most annoying as sometimes it can go off all night and we live opposite.

It's being run down now in prep for demolition eventually so I highly doubt they will care.

what is going on this week? Is it just Passfield or is Liphook affected too?

does anyone know why?
