CO-OP HEADLEY ROAD
- James (16th Oct 2017 - 17:15:25)
As far as I am aware, unless they have changed the Highway Code,I thought it was illegal to reverse onto a main road? It is about time someone did something about this before there is a serious accident? If you can reverse, then please reverse into the spaces out the front, this also makes it a lot easier to pull out when you leave!!!!

Doesn't make it illegal as per your sweeping claim.
Also if you're obeying the speed limit and paying attention to the road whilst driving it's not a problem.
At the busiest times of day you'll be lucky to be moving faster than a crawl anyway through Liphook's delightful traffic.
Been a shop there with parking out front for decades - no major incidents that I know of!

doesn't state that a 'main road' cannot be a 'B' road.
The Headley Road is sufficiently busy enough to be a major hazard when reversing onto. Couple that together with the fact the Co-op has a free car park and also the car driver has the (much safer) option to reverse into a car space along the main frontage.
Reversing out onto the B3004 presents an unnecessary risk.

Legal or not, it would probably be safer for the pedestrians on the pavement if the cars reversed in rather than out. The delivery drivers manage it - despite the dodgy dump and run parking in the main car park.
