- Julie (13th Oct 2017 - 22:16:27)
Hi, does anyone know where I can find out the time the roads are being closed for the carnival procession?

Hi Julie
Full details on our website - www.liphookcarnival.org.uk
Longmoor Road closes from about 3.30pm until 9pm.
Headley, Portsmouth, Midhurst, Haslemere and Station Roads will close from 6pm until 9pm.
The Square closes at 6pm. Entertainment (fabulous steel band) starting from 6.15pm.
London Rosd closes at 6pm and doesn't re-open until 10pm due to pedestrians returning from the bonfire.
Sainsbury's are closing at 6pm.
Hope that helps!
Best wishes
Karen Feeney

Last year was very disappointing, very few floats, has it had its day? I hope not but I remember the days when the number of floats stretched back beyond The Avenue but last year barely reached the layby. Too many outsiders have moved in and are not willing to contribute to village life

Full details of the date, the times and a map of the route can be found on page 2 of the Liphook Community Magazine Autumn 2017.
This can be accessed on the toolbar to the left of this page.

'Outsiders' - well with that attitude, no wonder people don't feel part of the community

- 'Outsider' (14th Oct 2017 - 15:14:39)
Dave, perhaps you'd like to consider why 'outsiders' don't want to contribute? Could it be the outdated and ignorant views 'locals' like yourself hold?
As an 'outsider' I've visited the carnival and fireworks every year since living here (although that's only 3) and given money to support the event. I use the local shops and businesses when when I could get things cheaper elsewhere. I've supported Liphook in bloom and I go to the village markets and events. But I've not contributed a float to the carnival as I clearly have no support for the village.
Sadly people live much busier lives than ever before, working much longer hours and having little spare time. It doesn't mean they don't support or care for the village.
New housing is a fact of life everywhere and with it comes new residents. I think it's about time you (and many others on here) started to accept that.

'Too many outsiders have moved in and are not willing to contribute to village life'
What a ridiculous comment. Having moved to Liphook 12 months ago I clearly fall into this outsider category. I contribute by drinking in the local pubs, buying flowers from the local florist, having my car serviced at the local garage etc etc. The fact that I do not organise a float does not affect my status as a villager. I think you will probably find that many of the outsiders live in one of the many new developments. Therefore, it is likely that the net number, of what you would refer to as legitimate villagers, has not changed and should have little impact on carnival participation. I would imagine that the general economic environment is more likely to be the reason for reduced participation. I assume from your comment that you will have organised a float? if so please let me know which it is and i will happily wave you past.

You dont need a big float push and pull catorgory is for walking entries
A few wheels wood paint cardboard is all it takes not sure how many times we had push and pull entries
Remeber a lot of the older generation took part and they are sadly getting older new blood is needed to keep things going a few hours is all it takes
You dont need a lorry keep it simple and fun
Would take part but couldnt walk that far now
