Sainsburys
- Roland (22nd Sep 2017 - 21:03:07)

Just wondered if anyone knew the rules for the self service Lane in sainsburys? Literally only went in for a ginsters slice and found myself waiting to use one of three tills on one side, as someone had decided to do their monthly shop on the other side blocking all tills with their trolleys and scattering shopping bags (all 5p ones I might add) all over the place. Surely it's 10 items or less?!

Roland,
I don't think it's 10 items or less... you're getting confused with the basket aisle.
By the way, I hope that wasn't your ' ginsters' wrapper floating round the car park.... they seem to be popular, never been a great fan.

Cheers nigel. I just feel the self service should be for convenience shoppers, who, in a rush, are able to nip in and grab that those few missing bits they need to sort dinner after a busy day....not get stuck behind someone preparing for a holocaust!! Can assure you it wasn't my wrapper. I like to take mine home, open one end and bung it in the microwave for 1min30!! Bit of HP sauce. Splendid tea time snack!

Good call Roland, to make it even more tasty try some pickled red cabbage with it,delicious!!

You should try the smart shop system - I'm very grateful that they've stopped people using the two checkouts put in for that unless you have actually used a self scan handset or the mobile app. It's usually like having your own personal checkout with no queue! :)

of the future!

Crikey! They'll have us restocking the shelves next!

There is no limit to how many items you can buy at self service but even if there was, consider all the other 'rules' that people generally ignore in Sainsburys.
Plenty of people don't stop at the crossings or park in the disabled or parent & child parking without need.
You are living among the selfish & entitled.

What do you mean by "entitled" exactly?

Roland, whilst I really do understand your frustration you might like to remember that you are in a supermarket, which is trying to satisfy everyone's shopping needs. For your personal convenience the basket aisle is very quick, and the smart shop aisle very easy and often clear of shoppers. If this isn't quick enough for you, you can always pop into the garage.

I just feel that blocking other tills with your trolley and all your shopping bags, shows a complete lack of consideration for other shoppers. Whilst I appreciate there is a basket Lane, there are also these strange things called human beings, sat at really long checkouts, surely more suitable for people do a large shop. You seen those val? 🤔🤔

As I say to my 6 year old, the world doesn't revolve around you and also patience is a virtue.

I believe the newsagents sells Ginsters, maybe a quicker alternative than a Supermarket although it may be a little more expensive, but as I again say to my 6 year old, you can't have your cake (or in this case ginsters slice) and eat it!

Are there any plans to keep a checkout lane or two for the over 80's who haven't got many years left to learn the new systems?
