Drone in Passfield?
- Sarah (22nd Sep 2017 - 11:34:28)
Has anyone else seen a drone in or around the Passfield area of late? I've just seen what is obviously quite a powerful one hovering over several houses around the Passfield Road / Headley Lane area.
Obviously me putting the rubbish in the bin was hugely interesting to whoever was operating it. Go figure.

There is a chap who lives next to the store in Passfield who takes aerial photos for a living using drones

I believe this has been acquired by the parish council as part of the growing surveillance strategy to monitor inconsiderate parking, dodgy door to door sales persons, inconsiderate bonfires, gate thieves, lost dogs, sign post vandals, dodgy dishonest councillors, rogue roofers, post office bandits, poor Grama and spelings, idiots, missing pussy's, football cards and missing carnival trophies. Also having a good look for more land to build unwanted houses on!

Dear TICh-eek,
Of course we are all grateful that our council have invested in a drone to keep watch over us, especially as they are no longer able to provide us with police officers, but I guess it was inevitable that they'd end up spending more time watching poor Sarah's figure than my allotment, I lost 2 cabbages again last night, where was the drone then may I ask? Too busy looking at Sarah's bins no doubt. And don't give me slugs, I'm not buying it!
Oh and you're prepositions, you are not focussing on your prepositions! Sorry, I probably shouldn't have mentioned it, but that and thinking about poor Sarah in her nightie putting out her bins whilst being watched by a drone is just driving me crazy! I mean it's not on, that's what I mean. I mean where can you buy these things anyway???

I love the humour on recent threads. really a great pick me up.
The post made me think about privacy laws (which we don't really have in the UK) and whether a licence or any regulation looks after our interests as nightie (or non-nightie wearing) rubbish putter-outers.
It seems that drones are actually called ‘small unmanned surveillance aircraft’ (I never knew that) - and
If the drone is within 150m of a congested area; OR
If the drone is within 150m of an organised open-air crowd of more than 1000 persons; OR
If the drone is within 50m of people and/or objects/properties that they do not control of; OR
If the drone is within 30m of any person during take-off and landing.
Then it is illegal to fly it without permission.
However, what the definition is for a congested area, or people not under your control - is anyone's guess.

This is a good place to start with rules on flying drones: dronesafe.uk
The Skyway Code which has been produced recently by the CAA for pilots of light aircraft defines has a note:
‘Congested area’ in relation to a city, town or settlement,
is any area which is substantially used for residential,
industrial, commercial or recreational purposes.

I had a chap trying to sell me an overhead photo of my property. I was surprised to see how fast he RAN away when I asked to see his licence. It does make me worried for all my more vulnerable neighbours.

Between 2 & 2.30am last night we were awoken by a Drone flying outside our property. It was extremely loud (windows were open slightly on the safety catch as it was warm) . People in the Business centre on Lynchborough Road.
Next time we shall report you to the police.

Reported to 101 & the owners of Passfield business centre. There has recently been an increase in overnight activity here. If anyone else heard the drone between 2 & 2.30 am this morning please also it report to 101.
Drones can be used to look for metal, copper, contents of gardens, open windows etc & interestingly for potential rave sites . Lock everything away and keep your windows closed.

What’s the link between the drone and the Business Centre?
Flying a drone at night can only have negative implications. Did the police have anything helpful to say?

They were operating the drone from the business centre grounds .
Police are aware and will hopefully be including the site on their patrols. The drone had a red light on it and was hovering outside and over some properties on Lynchborough Road, heard and seen by 2 residential houses. Suspect scouting for contents of Gardens, open windows etc etc
