Haslemere Road Car Park pay & display
- mm (11th Aug 2017 - 13:49:55)

Application to turn the Haslemere Road car pay into pay and display.
Application EHDC 56285/001.
This is the thin end of the wedge, will Midhurst Road or Station Road be next?
Removing the beautiful display by Liphook in Bloom. Just so they can make the drive way two way to the application for the new development behind which only allows 1.5 parking spaces for each house, so for 13 houses not enough parking places, The closest parking will be Chiltlee Manor etc.

The proposed development would make a bit of a mockery of the 'conservation area' wouldn't it? More like 'overdevelopment area'.

lodge your objection with EHDC before end of play 14th August!

If you're voting for austerity, you have to accept that money has to be raised by councils in other ways.

If central government won't fund the running of the country - what do you want them to do?

A pay and display don't make money! stop building roundabouts and car parks and let liphook stay the nice green village we all love.

I agree with I above.
Expansion and "development" degrade the village life of Liphook, they make a new Waterlooville out of what Liphook used to be...

I wonder what happens to the money that people put into the pay and display machines then?

What do you mean - they don't make money - I'm interested?

It is very simplistic to assume that a pay and display car park instantly makes money, especially if it's a smaller car park. First of all, a machine has to be acquired and installed. Then there is the question of emptying machines and associated manpower costs. Then there is the matter of enforcement - if there is no enforcement, then nobody will buy tickets and there will be no revenue. More staffing costs. There is almost bound to be vandalism and crime affecting the machine at some time in its life adding to the cost.

It's quite possible that the proposed charges for the car park will result in costs that may in fact take several years to recoup, if ever at all. So, all in all, it is quite erroneous to assume that car parking charges are an instant money maker.

I suppose we will also see - a further explosion of cars being parked in near by residential streets - because people will refuse to pay - causing further inconvenience to residents - in sometimes quite narrow streets - & blocking drive ways - Bad idea I think - but hey I'm just a resident of this once happy village.
