Empty Retail Units London Road
- Val (23rd May 2017 - 21:52:23)

Has anyone noticed how tatty the bottom end of London Road, by the square, has become. Talk about first impressions of our village!
Since the Kebab shop, Electrical shop, the cobbler closed and the unfinished new building behind the old paint colour shop appears to be in a state of limbo, weeds are in abundance and there is an air of dereliction about the place.
Surely the owner(s) has some responsibility in keeping the area clean and tidy, not least of all to encourage new businesses into these units.

The scruffier the buildings are the more inclined the council will be to compromise on any planning applications.

Well known developer tactic to make a site look so appalling, locals will then be less inclined to object when an application for change of use and housing is submitted (see land at Bohunt Manor).

Look at the old butchers shop in Lindford. Been an eyesore for years but council will not let owner develop so it just remains an appalling eyesore.

But in answer to your question, no there is no obligation on either council or owners unless unsafe or contradiction any bylaws or covenants. Same when you live next to a scruffy neighbour who doesn't tend their garden etc
