Roundabout? what roundabout?
- liphook driver (27th Apr 2017 - 20:25:55)

So I was driving along Headley Road Liphook to go into Longmoor Road and the car that was behind me whilst approaching the roundabout suddenly was in front of me on exiting the roundabout into Longmoor Road. And yes I was indicating. No I am not a slow driver, and I didnt hesitate at the junction as it was clear. It could be someone picking up their little Darling from School or a resident of Victoria Way as this is the road they went in to after their dodgy manoeuvre. You are an absolute IDIOT. I think the number plate started VE06 this was at 4.25pm this afternoon, if someone know this lunatic please advise them to go retake their test.

Sadly this isn't an isolated incident. Early one morning a few weeks ago, I was turning right at the roundabout onto London Road. A silver BMW 1 series thought that overtaking me to my right at the roundabout, with the road marking to his or her left was a good idea. Wise to their reckless manoeuvre I applied a small about of acceleration to ensure that they remained behind me. Their reward for their stupidity, being behind me driving a good 5mph under the recommended speed limit until we both joined the A3 northbound.

Pedantic? Maybe. However, a proscribed speed limit is not the speed at which it is recommended that one should drive, it is the absolute maximum limit at which one is allowed to drive!

In general it would seem people make up their own rules with roundabouts in Liphook 1 of my pet hates - Blocking the roundabout - 6 different cars I witnessed the other night with the whole or part of their car preventing traffic flow - stood in heavy traffic jam on Portsmouth road as a result - It's difficult enough to turn right here unless someone is turning right from in front of the Anchor, in to Portsmouth Road - to allow you to dash across before the next flow starts
AND INDICATION OF YOUR INTENTIONS WOULD HELP - that's why indicators are fitted to the car
Please read your highway code - mini roundabouts should be treated like any other roundabout.

I agree, this sort of thing happens all too frequently in Liphook! I often have seen drivers going the wrong way around the roundabouts!

Last Wednesday evening, I saw someone pull out of Headley Rd and turn right into Longmoor Road, completely ignoring the existence of the roundabout.

On several occasions, when I have been approaching the roundabout through the Square and waiting to go straight across into Headley Rd, a car opposite me in Headley Rd has indicated Right, so I move forward, anticipating plenty of time to cross the roundabout while they navigate around the roundabout from my right. Wrong! They barge across directly in front of me , having gone around the roundabout the wrong way, causing me to do an emergency brake - and THEY are the ones who blast on the horn and give ME a filthy look, as if I am the one in the wrong!

I do wonder how many people there might be on the roads who have never passed a driving test and have never learned how to use a roundabout.

This is what I was trying to get across in my post at the top, the car that was behind me as I was going round the roundabout to turn right into longmoor road undertook me by completely avoiding the roundabout and went into longmoor road before I did. The junction was clear of cars but there was a group of children at the junction (which is unusual for this time of day) I know nothing can be done about idiot drivers but I just needed to share my disbelief of this lunatic. I had a bad day at work and how I stopped myself from turning into the road that they turned down and giving them a piece of my mind I don't know!

And what fun we are going to have, when the extra houses have been built with there extra two cars per household. The village/town will be a no go zone in the morning and pick up.

Terry, I am fully aware that we cannot exceed a speed limit and that it is not a recommendation, please put this down to a poor choice of words and not a misunderstanding of the Highway Code. The message I was trying to get across was that due to their antics I purposely drove 5mph under the speed limit.

It is not only in liphook that driving standards are getting worse. around 5 Pm last night I was in Tilford waiting at the bridge which is single lane traffic, for a car which was coming across the bridge from the other direction. The driver behind me kept hooting me impatiently because I waited for the car to come across the bridge, then he tailgated me for 2 miles afterwards.

Nearly got taken out AGAIN today as someone came flying across the roundabout from Headley Road. Having crawl onto the roundabout from the London Road I nearly got broadsided and was subjected to a lot of horn abuse.
There's no way they were doing 20mph, and wouldn't have seen me enter with no one to give way to.
It really has to stop. Thankfully I have a dash cam after I got taken out there last year by another moron.
