Praise for the NHS
- Alan (6th Dec 2016 - 15:58:46)

I'd like to thank Andy, the first responder from Liphook Fire Station; Justin the paramedic from Petersfield Trust and his ambulance driver (sorry can't remember your name); and the coronary care team at QA Portsmouth. They undoubtedly saved my life yesterday.

Blues all the way to QA; straight from the ambulance into an already prepped operating theatre no waiting at all. Within minutes they had passed lines up my arm and installed a stent to allow the blood to flow again to my heart muscle. Instant pain relief and hopefully not too much long lasting damage.

I now have a few days on the ward here having more tests before they will let me home to recover.

NHS - enough said !

So glad you are doing well Alan. Praise indeed to the NHS.
I saw an ambulance with his blue lights on, pass through the square yesterday, must have been for you Alan.
Get well soon.

Hello Alan,

So glad for you that you've had such a positive result from something so awful!

I was talking last night with a friend about the wonderful job the NHS does under such difficult circumstances.

True miracle workers!!

Wishing you a speedy recovery, and huge praise for all involved!

I totally agree with this praise for the wonderful employees that serve our NHS. Thank you Andy for getting to us so quickly, God bless you Justin and Steve for your skillful diagnosis and efficiency in getting my husband to QA and arranging that the theatre staff were fully prepped and good to go. I honestly believe you saved my husbands life on Monday. Absolute respect. Thanks to the QA staff for their skills in fixing the problem and the aftercare. Forever in your debt.
Chrissy

How lovely, a page that praises something, especially our hard worked NHS workers. I fell down the stairs back in August. The ambulance arrived in 20 minutes, and the medics were wonderful, as were the staff at Guildford hospital, I felt a bit faint when I went to get up and the doctor herself went and got me a sandwich, as she thought the light headedness was due to hunger, and she was right. So lets keep this page for positive points of view. So glad the chap who started this page is doing so well, have a lovely Christmas

Hi all. Just to confirm that I am now back home.

I now have around 6 weeks of slow rehabilitation to get the heart muscle repairing itself. In my case about 40% of the heart was damaged.

The run upto the 'main event' started the week before during exercise - I thought I had strained a chest muscle. At night the chest pain prevented me sleeping. Getting up and walking around would make the pain suddenly go. Because of this the doctors did not think it could be a heart issue at all. An ECG at the surgery revealed nothing - but I was not in pain at that particular time (last Wednesday). The night pain continued so I get little sleep. Sunday night was worse leading to continous pain by Monday morning. Spoke to my doctor who still dismissed heart problem and prescribed antacid medication. No help. About an hour later I asked my wife to call 999.

It appears that I was having multiple small heart attacks everyday until the big one which started Sunday night.

So a note for everyone reading this, do not dismiss intermittent chest pain - it could still be a heart attack, do not ignore it and do not be frightened to call 999 or go to A&E if you even think that the pain could be from your heart.

Be safe, mine was a very close call.

Alan it was a great shock to hear of your attack. You have always been the rock for everyone. I hope you take notice about relaxing and have a quiet Christmas. I know how hard it is to slow down when you are used to rushing around. You have Chrissy there to look after you. Take care, lots of love Yolanda xxxx
