Volunteering for the homeless or elderly - Sarah (3rd Dec 2016 - 22:39:28)
I'm feeling very lucky this year that I have a warm home to live in and have food in the cupboards to feed my 2 boys. I would like to give something back. I would like to volunteer to help the homeless or the elderly in some way. Does anyone know of any local Liphook charities where I could help out? This time of year can be a very lonely time as not everyone has a family to spend it with. And with the cold weather I feel so much for anyone without a warm bed to sleep in. How can I help people more? Any ideas???

There is also the Wey Centre at Wey hill. I do not know if they are doing it this year but most years they have a meal for the elderly there on Christmas Day and ask for helpers. It may be worth enquiring there.

The lunch in Haslemere takes place at Haslewey Community Centre on Christmas Day and is for anyone who would otherwise be spending the day alone. If you would like to volunteer or you know of anyone who would like to attend please email haslemerechristmaslunch@gmail.com

I am just in the process of registering to become a volunteer with TLC hospice at home services http://www.hospiceservices.org.uk/
They are Bordon based and are looking for volunteers who can offer up to 3 hours per week to befriend a person who has a life limiting condition. Have a look at their website, I know that you wouldn't be signed up and DBS checked in time for Christmas but it is a positive commitment for 2017. Like you, I feel very fortunate and incredibly grateful for the life I lead and want to give back something to our community . I have requested befriending a person in Liphook as my preference.
