Petrol prices
- Des (19th Nov 2016 - 08:28:39)

Named & shamed - please take note Sainsburys....

Daily Mail - British drivers face a maddening 'postcode lottery' at the pumps...

Motorists filling up at the supermarket's forecourt in Waterlooville, eight miles north of Portsmouth, pay 110.9p per litre.

Just 19 miles north up the A3, the grocer charges 117.9p at Liphook. This is an extra 7 pence per litre, making it £3.85 more expensive to fill up a 55 litre tank in a typical family car.

I don't see why this comes as any great surprise - it's down to the age old laws of supply and demand.

In Waterlooville, Sainsburys is competing with the Asda the other side of the A3 roundabout and other petrol outlets in Horndean and Purbrook/Cosham

In Liphook it has no real competition (except for the A3 service station) and so charges an increased price.

If you don't like it, vote with your feet and buy your petrol elsewhere, but take into account the cost of the petrol you need to use to get to another petrol station and home again.

As Keith says, no great surprise. It happens throughout the store - we regularly see the same items cheaper at their Godalming store.

Shame on you again Sainsburys for putting up fuel prices quickly over the last few days. Asda at Havant had diesel at 115.7p this morning, about 10p per litre cheaper!

Re: Petrol prices
- Moris (16th Jan 2017 - 22:56:55)

Diesel was 129.9p a litre at the Liphook A3 station today. So Sainsbury's is offering a competitive local price.

Moris

I assume you are being sarcastic!

Re: Petrol prices
- Jaybee (17th Jan 2017 - 10:14:05)

Let us be fair about this.

Sainsbury's have to increase their fuel prices to cover the cost of:-

"7 pence per litre discount on fuel, if you spend £20 on cleaning products"

I filled my tank and saved a massive £2.80

Re: Petrol prices
- OLLIE (17th Jan 2017 - 10:40:23)

Sainsburys @ farlington is £1.14 a ltr.diesel.

Re: Petrol prices
- Barbara (17th Jan 2017 - 17:08:56)

Unless we live very remotely and allowance made for the cost of getting the tanker there petrol should cost the same in most of the country. We are not that far from the
Refinery after all!

Re: Petrol prices
- Nicky (17th Jan 2017 - 17:39:48)

Almost on a daily basis the fuel at Sainsburys Liphook seems to go up. In fact it's become a bit of a game my daughter now plays on the way to school...'look mum fuel is up again today'! Liphook Sainsburys would seem to be taking the mickey. Even on the A3 at Wisley diesel was a penny cheaper than dear old Sainsburys this week. I neither get my groceries there or my fuel. I doubt they miss my business but it certainly makes me feel better!!

- nick. (19th Jan 2017 - 13:08:52)

Jet at Godalming not that far away £1.20 / litre

Re: Petrol prices
- dcb (20th Jan 2017 - 12:12:02)

Shell Garage by Bordon Tesco £120.99 or BP garage opposite Country Market £119.99 plus Nectar Points!

Re: Petrol prices
- dcb (20th Jan 2017 - 15:10:28)

Oops should be pence not pounds!!!!

Re: Petrol prices
- AM (20th Jan 2017 - 23:05:52)

Havant Asda - £1.16 per litre for diesel (if you are passing).

Re: Petrol prices
- Richard (28th Jan 2017 - 16:34:47)

Asda for petrol this morning, 114.7p /litre.

It seems the local fuel vendors are ramping prices.

The best advice is if you can find somewhere cheaper to buy fuel do so.

Re: Petrol prices
- G renouf (29th Jan 2017 - 06:59:35)

Tesco havant £1.16 petrol £1.19 diesel if your that way

Re: Petrol prices

Sainsbury's in Chichester charge 5p a litre less than Sainsbury's in Liphook. Why?

Re: Petrol prices

Don't worry, I do buy elsewhere. It doesn't cost me to get there as I don't live in Liphook anyway!
