Are the yellow lines coming ?
- BT (25th Oct 2016 - 08:49:20)

When coming along The Avenue yesterday in my car I saw a man wearing a yellow high vis. jacket appearing to check the corner of the road in to Avenue Close. He had what appeared to be a list in his hand. When I got to Lark Rise I saw that markings had appeared on the road corners turning on to The Avenue where the proposed yellow lines would finish. Are they going to be done this week while it is half term ?

The lines may be coming, but are the council going to (pay someone to) enforce them?

Yes, the lines are coming- we had a letter from EHDC yesterday confirming that they have approved revised proposals, which are generally less than originally proposed. There will be double yellows on all junctions from Headley Road/ The Avenue round to Longmoor Road/ The Avenue. There will also be short lengths near the school playing fields, Yeoman's Lane to Lark Rise and the blind bend on The Avenue approaching Headley Road, as well as the whole length of the Longmoor Road layby.

This might stop the worst of the inconsiderate parking but won't help the overall parking capacity near the schools. Enforcement will be the real test of whether line painting has any real effect

It would be madness to yellow line the Longmoor Road layby... it's off the road and safe to stop...

Yellow lines in the lay-by sounds rather mad but will deter people from parking their vehicles and leaving the rear end of their vehicle sticking out into the road - very dangerous at times.

So what is to stop people parking out on the Headley Rd or Longmoor Rd where there are no restrictions, as per the considerate people (the ones with driveways) who park out at the top of the Headley Rd just before the singular yellow lines begin.
Although causing considerable delays to everybody travelling into the village as far as I can see they can do this legally.
Will not the same apply all the way down both roads towards the school, maybe somebody can correct me if wrong. Tower Rd and the co-op car park are already jammed at peak times and now off peak, so no joy there.
Carnage is bound to reign supreme around this area very rapidly if this continuing problem is not addressed.
I find it incredible around this so called village, where every available blade of grass is built on but no provision is made for parking, deliveries or dropping off, I know this might be difficult to swallow for some but no matter how you try to educate people about the need to use a car, whatever the size, they will always use it.
With increased proposed development thus more cars etc this will only get considerably worse.

Perhaps the council could suggest where the parents could safely park to drop off their children (remembering that this includes 5 and 6 year olds) and not cause an offence or a danger to anyone. How about the same old suggestion of the bottom end of the sports field with a pick up and drop area the children would then be safe to walk into school. I cant remember the reason this is not possible.
