Access to Longmoor Ranges from Conford
- Richard (21st Sep 2016 - 10:47:36)

Does anyone know why this entrance is continually closed as this is somewhat unusual?

The army have been on exercise recently. We live in Passfield & have heard the warning siren , gunfire & low flying helicopters. I'd assume it's due to that

Many thanks for that information. Hope will reopen soon as I like it for cycling!

The gate at Conford is on a marked official footpath and shouldn't be obstructed by gate closures. However, the MoD has its own set of rules on military land and this presumable over rides civilian legal access. Incidentally the gate is padlocked shut even when the red flags are down. The sign by the gate indicates armoured vehicle training as the reason. Today I was challenged for riding a bike on the Weavers Down side of the ranges. I wonder if this is one of the "purges" on bike riding which seem occur up there every few years. We co exist with the military training and I'm grateful for access to the land. It's a shame that taking exercise on a bike and avoiding the military training (15mph speed limit) is not sufficient for peaceful co existence of bike riders and military.
