Speed of traffic on Haslemere Road
- Lizzy (30th Aug 2016 - 20:32:34)

If anyone else is concerned (annoyed) by the speed (volume) of traffic on the Haslemere Road, please see the comment I recently added to the "Speed of Traffic on Headley Road".

I have now received a reply saying that they "usually" send out a staff member to make a "site assessment" which will be completed within two weeks, subject to availability.

I really feel that if anyone else feels as I do they should EMail them and then we mat get some response or hopefully action.

Hi Lizzy , I do agree with you about the speed of traffic surrounding the village has got to an unacceptiable level and I have taken your advice and followed up with an email.

I do however have a cautionary tale as , many years ago when I lived in Wokingham and my kids were going to pre-school a group of parents also got a petition up around the speed of traffic passing by the infants school, and it worked. Only problem was that half of the parents that signed the petition were also caught exceeding the speed in the local area.

So with all the comments about speed on this website I am paying very close attention to the speed limits surrounding the village.

regards

Greg

I agree something should be done about the speeding in Liphook. The amount of people driving badly is unbelievable at times. (A general problem not just localised to Liphook of course)

One thing that is very frustrating is the "forty-mile-an-hour-ers" who will speed through the 30mph zones (or sit *right* on your tailgate) and then go ridiculously slowly on the de-restricted roads, holding everyone up.

I would not take a suggestion seriously that our local derestricted roads can be driven around at speed? In Bramshott and Hewshott and Hammer Vale, the speed limit is 60 but a safe level of driving is 25!

Hooray for the roadworks on Haslemere Road today - something to finally slow the speeding idiots down!
Well done for emailing the council Lizzy, I do hope they are true to their word and send someone out to assess the issue and then actually do something about it. I've been in touch with them in the past though and to no avail. I had a long conversation with someone about having some repeater 30mph signs but unfortunately that will never happen as they are only allowed on roads without lampposts. In other words on residential roads with lampposts drivers are already supposed to know that the speed limit is 30mph. Well, that relies on a - all drivers knowing their Highway Code and b - all drivers caring about it! Unfortunately a few extra road signs would to little to alter these thoughtless peoples' habits and they will continue speeding. What we desperately need is a speed camera but we may well be waiting a very long time for that......

Hi Sam,

I was possibly more than slightly naive thinking I, or we, could make any change but thought giving it a go couldn't do any harm. Worth a try, hey!

I live just before Stonehouse Road, on the opposite side of the road. The traffic coming out of the Square seems to think it can speed up soon after Gunns farm. Coming into Liphook traffic seems unaware of the 30mph limit until the road appears more built up i.e. Houses closer to the road or, one of us adheres to the 30 speed limit and annoys the hell out of some of them.

The other thing that's got so much worse is the volume of traffic, mostly lorrys - very long builders lorrys, Wiiliams of Bordon (sometimes 2 or 3 an hour (ish) I'm really not counting, honest!)

Before I sent my E Mai I "googled": legal requirements for frequency of 30mph speed limit signs.

Goggle came up with www.roadsafetygb.org.uk with headline "Road sign changes come into effect" Monday 18th April 2016.
"Under the new legislation, local authorities can now make their own decisions on how many speed limit signs are needed so that drivers know what limits apply".

So, they replied to my E Mail saying one of their people would come and access the problem and come back to me in 2 weeks. Surely if they try to fob us off we can continue to argue our case if enough people in Haslemere Road agree with and support this.

Lizzy
