Gym Memberships
- Chris (17th Aug 2016 - 16:30:34)
Hi Everybody,
I've seen some complaints about the local gyms (either about fees or that they're not adequate), The Edge Leisure Centre is just 5 minutes up the A3. If you fancy a change or would like to get into exercise and sports, The Edge is a great place to start.
If you would like to have a look around please feel free to do so or you can give us a ring at 01428 644 577
I look forward to hearing from you! :-)

I'm interested but cannot see any indication of how much membership costs.

the Waverley council owned gyms are usually about £10 a week for unlimited gym and classes.
Not sure if it still applies, but it used to be that if you joined any in Surrey you got them ALL included. Farnham, Godalming, Cranleigh, the Edge and The Herons. So you can check which one is the cheapest and still go to classes at the others.

What is it with Gym's and the like and how all of them need you to attend and talk in order to get prices?

When I was recovering from my shoulder injury, I got a job at the Herons because the perks are that you can go to as many classes as you like, use the gym as much as you like and swim as much as you like. The job was crap but the perks were great!
It was a right pain because people would phone and ask the price (which we all knew) and we were told by them that we weren't allowed to tell them on the phone - only in person.
The staff have to book a certain amount of appointments per week and are given very high sales targets each month. I personally believe that people will come and join (or not) if they want to regardless of sales pitch!
The classes at the Edge are great and they recently had a makeover at the gym. Generally you can't beat the council owned gyms for price (if you want to have staff there as well).
I agree that the prices should be transparent. Each centre should publish the prices on-line, and, as they are owned by the council, the council should push this to make sure they they are all transparent. It's not as if they've got anything to hide - its just that they believe that if they show you around - you are bound to sign up there and then.

What a peculiar set up, Dawn! As a potential customer, I would be very put off! I would be wondering whether the person coming in after me might be offered the same service at a better price than I had been offered it. Discretionary pricing is surely the commonest reason for that kind of individual, somewhat secretive approach.
