We are away this week in the UK and took part in a local pub quiz which we really enjoyed so I was quite excited to see this post until I saw the cost. £3 per head, really? That would have cost us £15.

The quiz we took part in this week was free. It was a really large pub and was packed from 9pm until closing with people taking part. So the pub made its money by selling drinks and snacks. The prizes were supplied by the pub - sweets for the losing team, sweets for the team with the best name and a selection of beers/wine for the winning team.

Quiz like this are all about the taking part, not winning lots of money. For £3 a head we will be looking elsewhere for a pub quiz and taking our business with it sadly.

Just to let you good people know that the jackpot is at £165.00 next week. So why don't you come along this Wednesday to see if you can win :-). It is only £3.00 per person to enter and there are free prawn crackers on each table. All the money taken on the night is given out in prize money; there is even a chance to win a £10.00 drinks voucher :-).

We really enjoyed it.
£3 each, not too much for an evening of entertainment. You'd probably spend that on a sandwich without thinking blinking.

Anyway - the good news for us was that our table won!
And we had a delicious Thai dinner as well. Win Win.

It is a decade or more since I went into the Green Dragon - it is great to see it turned into such a nice and friendly place again.

The only negative things I can possibly find would be the artwork which fills every wall and is quite disturbing and the Coca-Cola that comes out of the pump - which is horrid. (easily remedied - buy a bottle).
But the staff are lovely and the quiz night really was good fun.

So nice to have a choice of pubs in the village again.

Why do some people have to end a positive comment with a negative, some people just want to moan about anything they can.

- Richard (3rd Nov 2016 - 20:54:11)

Have to say I am confused by the new artwork.

Lots of pictures of animals and studies of nature (nothing wrong with that) but unfortunately a blooming huge picture of a fox hunter.

Could do without that quite frankly. Does rather put one off of going.

The paintings are being provided by a local arts society I believe so are very varied and, apparently, will change regularly. I think some are for sale. I thought it was a brilliant idea.

Re: Quiz night at the Green Dragon
- Dawn Hoskins (15th Nov 2016 - 10:57:43)

I assume you are talking about me when you say ‘why do people have to say negative things’?

Well, that is because in life we experience both positive things and negative things, and as this is a discussion place (and I was giving a review) I included my actual view – not just siphoning off the negative ones.

Previously, my experience with the Green Dragon was ALL negative – I couldn’t find a nice thing to say about it.

Now – apart from the fact that I can’t drink their Coke (which they know is awful because I have spoken to them about it) which is easily remedied as they sell individual bottles of Coke; and the disturbing artwork, which they tell me was bought job lot from an auction; EVERYTHING else is great.

The food is great, the service is great, the people who work the bar are great and the quiz is also great.

The 2 negative things I have mentioned are not things that I have not spoken to the staff about, and it is only fair if you are expecting an even-handed review of your experience to say what you actually thought.

This, IMO, is not MOANING.

If you don’t write what you actually thought / experienced / felt – then how can if be a reflection of your visit?

On another note - why do some people still not write their names in the box at the top. The clue is in the title. 'Your Name:' I always feel immediate distrust for anyone who doesn't want to let anyone know who they really are. Why would you do this? Would your words be different if you stated your name? If you stand by your opinion it shouldn't matter what other people think.

Re: Quiz night at the Green Dragon
- Deliberately Anonymous (15th Nov 2016 - 12:52:40)

Dawn, I thought your review was overwhelmingly positive. While not all of the artwork is great, I quite like the picture of a cow that they have in the restaurant (the picture, not the cow.)

I do want to respond to your point about people not giving their names. I do accept that anonymity can lead some people to troll without fear of consequences, and that is unfortunate. Nevertheless, I disagree with your point that if you stand by your opinion it shouldn't matter what other people think.

In reality, this is not quite how it plays out. People need to get on in their communities and their neighbourhood and also may fear the overreaction of some people who are either professionally offended or simply angry about anything with which they disagree.

Such intolerance to the opinions of others have been highlighted in the politics of the UK and the US in recent months. As such, people who may have their own reasonable opinions or valid suggestions would be put off making their potentially valuable comments if it was a requirement that they were named.

Anonymity allows for more diverse views, from people who may not otherwise be tempted to post – as long as we filter out trolling.

I agree with the above poster, and having been "trolled" online found it a nasty unpleasant experience.
Everyone has a right to their opinion, and also what art one likes is a very subjective subject. What is horrible to one person is wonderful to another. I look at some art which fetches a high price and would not give it house room. Do not drink the coke on tap or look at the art work! I hardly noticed it when I went in. Although it may not fetch a lot of money, someone might like it! If the food is good and reasonably priced hat is enough for me to not post any negatives.
