A Thank You re Dog Attack.
- JB (26th Jun 2016 - 17:51:55)

I am using this post in the hopes that I can reach the two very brave motorists, a lady and a gentleman, who came to my aid when both my dog and I were attacked by 2 Mastiff type dogs on Saturday evening in the Longmoor Road.
Without the fearless intervention of these two passing drivers, I fear the result would have been even more serious than it already is. To the gentleman that sheparded the 2 dogs back into the property that they had 'escaped' from, and the lady who made such effective use of an umbrella my very sincere thanks.
My dog has been treated for the very serious injuries to her neck but is responding reasonably well. I can only apologise for not thanking you at the time, but my only thought was to get my dog to safety.
Once again I offer you both a huge Thank You.

Hhmm, Longmoor Road, two Mastiff-type dog... say no more. We've had postings here on the subject going back and forth!
Have you reported to the police - for whatever they could/would do about such residents?

These attacks on small dogs are happening too often. I don't know what the answer is. A previous attack was also in the Longmoor Road Area. Please read LYNCHMERE DOG WALKERS

I have heard that these dogs have attacked other dogs before and will no doubt again. The owner needs to be held accountable and the police should be informed before they attack an innocent passerby or child walking to school. The owners should be prosecuted and pay for any vets bill you have incurred. I hope your dog is ok and you are not too traumatised.

So lucky people stopped to help your poor dog. Heard about these dogs on the Longmoor Road before. Heaven forbid they attack a child.

Please ensure you report this to the police, my children regularly walk our dog in the area and I wouldn't want anything like this to happen to them. Hope your pooch is ok...

yes, please report to the police. These dogs have attacked too often. The dog warden is useless.

I cannot tell you how glad I am to read this posting. I have been so worried about your dog ever since I witnessed the event unfold on Saturday and had come on this site to put a posting to see if I could find out what happened and if you were both ok. Unfortunately I was in a large horsebox and by the time I could stop and find somewhere to turn around to come back to see if everything was ok, you were gone. I was passing just as the first dog emerged from the drive and I could tell by the look on its face it wasn't friendly. I saw you pause as you saw the same thing and as I drove past I watched them attack your dog in my mirrors, and as an animal lover whose dog has been attacked once I was totally distressed by it for you, especially when i saw the second one come for you too, and could not stop in time as I had horses on board and could find no where to turn. I saw the car reversing back to help you, which thank goodness they did. I am so so sorry I could not stop in time to help, and by the time I drove back you were gone, which I hoped meant everything was ok. It was so upsetting to watch and not be able to help, and I can only imagine what you must have been going through. I so hope your dog is ok, he looked like such a gentle chap, and I hope it doesn't affect him psychologically too much. Please update this post to let us know how he is doing, and please call the police as dogs like this are dangerous and could just as easily harm a child or next time kill someone's beloved pet. I am happy to be a witness for you if that would help.

I was attacked in Langley as the dog was trying to bite my leg. Luckily I was wearing wellington boots and my dog got away. I contacted the dog warden and he told the owners to put a muzzle on his dog when outside at all times and improve his fencing to stop the dog getting out. You must report this not just for your sake but others that may suffer the same incident.

I'm so glad to hear your dog is on the mend. I was with Selene in the horsebox and would also happily come forward as a witness. I hope no one was badly injured in the process and a massive thank you to the cars that did stop.

I echo what everyone else has said, please report to the police,

To the owner of those dogs, I urge you to do the responsible thing before your hand is forced by legal proceedings.

This is a shame , but to the person who is saying that little dogs are being attacked to much is a complete joke, it's the smaller dogs that antagonise the larger dog in most situations, the small dog with small dog syndrome, agreed the person who owns these dogs needs to do something about there animal but don't start categorising , unfortunately the owners of these dogs have let the dog down , it has nothing to do with the size of the dog or the fact that the dog is a mastiff!!

Re: A Thank You re Dog Attack.
- MRE (28th Jun 2016 - 16:40:11)

I quite agree with you D. We have a lovely staffi and she has been attacked by a jack Russell in the past, who dug its teeth into her and wouldn't let go whilst she ran back to us.

Also my pointer was attacked by three dogs; two labradoodles held her down whilst a jack Russell took chunks out of her. I have since heard that this is not the only attack they have undertaken on both dogs and humans!

It is owners who let their dogs down by acting irresponsibly. I am afraid I assume that every dog we see is unfriendly until proven otherwise - much safer!

- JB (28th Jun 2016 - 17:23:12)

The original intent of my posting was to attempt to convey thanks to those people who came to my aid at the time of the dog attack. However given the responses now posted I would like to give my assurances that the incident has been reported to the council environmental dept (dog warden not available) and to the police.
Reporting became especially important having now learnt from local residents that this is the 4th attack by the same dogs, all of which were reported. It should be noted that these dogs do attack without provocation. They are kept at a property that backs onto the fields between Longmoor Road and the A3, where they have been seen and where a least one previous attack took place.
To Selene, thank you for your efforts to stop and help, and for your concern. Our dog a vizsla received serious bite wounds to her neck and eye, however she is responding well to treatment. As a HPR breed she is accustomed to working in a group of similar breeds, so as soon as we are able, and with the help of my professional trainer we will re-introduce her to the group and see how her steadiness and confidence may have been affected. Once again thank you for your concern.
