Suspicious behaviour - be alert
- Mairead (2nd May 2016 - 11:38:23)

We've just had a white transit type van (swb) sitting on our road (parked up on the grass verge) for about 5 minutes with three lads in the front, who for all intents and purposes looked as if they were scoping out the houses in our cul de sac (Midhurst road end of Chiltley lane). One was drinking a cup of tea/coffee and then opened the window to have a cigarette.

Following this, they turned the van around and stopped to look into our garden but when I went out to make my presence known they very quickly drove off - they headed off up Chiltley lane in the direction of Highfield Lane/Devils Lane.

It might be something of nothing but looked very suspicious so be vigilant. We have lots of vehicles come in and turn around but this was definitely suspicious.

Unfortunately their registration plate was blocked from view most of the time so didn't get a chance to get the number. And the three lads had brown hair and were middle aged.

Hopefully it's nothing but just wanted to make people aware.

I also noticed the van. The near side passenger I'd say was forty and had a beard.

I have also heard that this vehicle may have also been seen in the Lark Rise area and I've heard of a dog chasing an intruder from a back garden in that area.

I understand a car has been stolen there in the last few days....

Driving along Highfield Lane towards Liphook yesterday, around lunchtime, we noticed white van parked up near Highfield School and DH remarked it looked suspicious.

Thanks for posting this. I also saw a van fitting this description including the 3 passengers at least twice over the last fortnight. On both occasions it was in the Huron Drive and Canada Way area, and the passengers spent a good amount of time staring at properties and at back gardens.

Both times the van was in the area around midday.

If there is a next time, I must remember to take my phone out to photo the van reg - at least then there is something to report to the police.

A van of this description with 3 scruffy men was parked on Paddock Way near junction of Weylands Close last week. Not sure if it connected but we had a door step sales guy selling old tat from a bag. Beware he is also likely checking who is home. Also last year I chased away a person from my garden. Have now installed CCTV and a bear trap in the shed which I must remember to avoid. Are you feeling lucky punk!

Please be aware that there has been a shed break in Meadow Way, Liphook, the break took place at some point over night between Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd May 2016.

Just to confirm the car stolen in Lark Rise has now been recovered and those responsible are being dealt with by the police. It's therefore unlikely that the suspicious white van that has been seen around the village is connected with this incident. There is however a white van in the vicinity of Lark Rise which I believe to be owned by a resident.

Had a guy knock on my door trying to sell fish and meat. Asked me if I wanted to go and look in his van to see what he had. Very similar to what's been described on the Haslemere rants. I didn't get a good look at his van other than it was white.

We had the fish pie k man knock a few weeks back. Very pushy and rude when I refused to buy his fish. Again white transit van. With another man and boy selling dusters from a bag Funny how the following day our neighbor's shed was broken into. Beware these people are trouble.

Had three guys in a whit transit knock on my door last night around 7pm interested in buying a vehicle on my driveway.
My dog going crazy as always when someone knocks on the door, seemed to dampen the guys enthusiasm to continue the conversation.
Got number plate of said van as they drove away. Within 10 minutes received a phone call from my son to report three guys in white transit had attempted to break into his mates works van close by only to be chased off by a relative.
Reported registration to police, came back as a white Mercedes convertible.

Don't know if its related but we had a large quantity of metal taken from our property on Sunday night/Monday morning.

It must have taken a significant amount of moving and did not hear a thing, not even the dog barked.

You have to be so vigilant.

As mentioned, probably not related but here is a link to the van picture for the Liphook folks...

This seems to be happening all around the place. I have seen similar reports on other Facebook pages. Some about trying to sell fish,or mattresses or just scoping an area which a day or two later get burgled.

Whilst in Ottershaw yesterday a bloke got out of a white van to try to sell me a mattress!!! He got a faceful from me as he was in a sheltered housing area full of vulnerable people.

All very dodgy ist it.

Passfield Resident

Not far from you down Hill House Hill. The white van shown on the Haslemere link has a different registration to the one clocked last night.

Had a call from the wife earlier at work, now we have had another crew this time in a red pick up today cruising slowly up and down the road looking in all properties.

Still never mind another phone call to the police centre on the Isle of Wight should do the trick. More chance of finding Lord Lucan riding Shergar than actually seeing a police car around the area.

Has anyone contacted the Police about this, if so, what are they doing about it? as yet, I have not seen them if, and when I do, I will contact them.

It's good that the community is observing suspicious activity.
This is good because if there is anyone thinking of perpetrating, at least they know people are watching.
It may be a village but it has its guardians too.
Well done!!
Basil
