The Co-Op
- M (2nd May 2016 - 09:42:27)

Has anyone else noticed the state of the Co-Op recently ?

Constant empty shelves, rubbish on the floors up each Isle, abandoned crates left on the floor, cigarette buts stuck to the matt as you walk in and don't even look at the floor around the bakery selection of foods.

Re: The Co-Op
- h (2nd May 2016 - 11:12:18)

have you spoken to the management about it? I am sure if it affected their sales figures they would want to know the reason people are not using the shop?

Re: The Co-Op
- M (2nd May 2016 - 13:07:06)

The management in place do not care and that in turn has filtered down to the little remaining staff that they have.

Re: The Co-Op
- H (2nd May 2016 - 13:55:37)

Perhaps it's because the Co-op has cut everyone's hours, made people redundent, demoted Supervisors and management & given them a pay cut in the process .
This is across the whole of the Southern co op.
Just in time for the minimum wage increase. Make of that what you will.

Re: The Co-Op
- GDH (2nd May 2016 - 15:49:19)

Have you not noticed there is about 6/7 members of staff in that shop and unfortunately cannot work all hours under the sun maybe give them just a little bit of slack until they fill the vacancies if there are any available that is... I see about 3/4 members of staff that are always working in that place not only that most of the time there is only 2 members of staff on a night so how would you expect them to make the shop look immaculate. If I'm completely honest I feel quite sorry for them

Re: The Co-Op
- h (2nd May 2016 - 16:24:16)

The managers must be on more than minimum wage? Whenever I have been served in the past there, before minimum wage, I have found that some staff worked hard and others did not, seemed to spend too much time chatting to each other?

Re: The Co-Op
- M (2nd May 2016 - 19:26:12)

I do believe that they were all offered a redundancy package before there hours were cut, I fully agree that it does seem to be only 1 or 2 members of staff who seem to be working but this is a problem that has been ongoing for a while now, there are a few people working there who are more interested in talking about what they got up to the night before in front of the public instead of maybe jumping on the tills when the que is out of the door. Problem is when you have poor management in place that same effort and enthusiasm filters down through to all of the staff that are underneath them. Maybe if the people that work there are that unhappy they should of taken the redundancy packages and found a job that they actually enjoyed and could take some pride in.

Re: The Co-Op
- H (2nd May 2016 - 20:05:56)

My understanding is that supervisory roles became rredundant as in the job role ceased to exist. No redundancy money for those people . It was either take the demotion and receive a partial redundancy payment with pay cut to reflect the new role or leave with no pay out .

Re: The Co-Op
- h (2nd May 2016 - 21:49:45)

The shop area is fairly small? The post office staff are seperate so cannot be counted into the 6/7 staff members mentioned earlier. 6 or 7 staff should be able to manage between them, a family run shop would manage with half that number with a shop that size?

Re: The Co-Op
- PQR (3rd May 2016 - 12:31:00)

Well quite frankly I think the shop is handy and you should be giving them a little gratitude especially as they open all bank holidays & over Christmas not to mention they open until 10pm so if it wasn't for those members of staff that you have such a problem with or the shop maybe go to sainsburys instead? But no you won't go to sainsburys because all you want to do is write on here like children now don't get me wrong if I could walk that far I would go to sainsburys just because there is more to choose from. I just think it's ridiculous how the little shop gets pin pointed every time yet nobody's complaining about sainsburys because it's a bigger shop and nobody notices things like that do they?

Re: The Co-op
- anne (3rd May 2016 - 16:59:34)

If anyone has got a problem with the Co-op would it not be better to write to The Southern Co-operative Ltd. 1000, Lakeside, Western Road, Portsmouth and point out your concerns at least then the powers that be can be made aware of the situation and perhaps do something about bringing the shop up to standard again.

Some days when you visit the store yes the shelves are empty but that is most probably because its change over week for the offers and they are waiting for deliveries of the next two weeks offers to be unpacked. Having worked in retail I do know that this sometimes is the case with the bigger outlets.

I personally have always found the Staff O.K whenever I have shopped there.

Re: The Co-Op
- Anon (4th May 2016 - 23:39:02)

As a regular user of the coop I do wonder what has happened there in the last few years. The shelves are always empty, there is rubbish all over the floor and it seems to be severely understaffed.

when I go in in the evening, there are only 2 members of staff in. Doesn't seem enough to me.

Re: The Co-Op
- Anne (22nd Jun 2016 - 16:11:44)

Went to the Co-Op last night to pick up a couple of weekly magazines and was really shocked and quite disgusted at the state of the magazine rack. Everything looked like it have been just hurled at the rack with no order to anything and I had to search and search to find what I was looking for. It was then only when I got home did I realise that I'd actually read both of the magazines as they were previous weeks issues and the stock had not been updated with the new issues even though they are delivered on Tuesdays. Not at all impressed and was going to gently complain but with only two moody looking teenagers serving I really didn't think my comments would be listened to or acted on. Really sad because although I travel past the Spar at Lindford every day I never stop there as I've always wanted to support our local shop - use it or lose it. Maybe a rethink in future

Re: The Co-Op
- Russ (22nd Jun 2016 - 21:59:06)

If you talk to the staff you'll find it's to do with drastic cut backs. They have had their hours cut back and are understaffed. Not just Liphook that is suffering.

Be a shame not to support them. They need all the help they can get at the moment.

Re: The Co-Op
- Lucy (23rd Jun 2016 - 07:34:45)

I bought some eggs a couple of weeks ago to find that their display until date was 3 weeks before I bought them and 2 weeks past the use by date!

Re: The Co-Op
- Ian (23rd Jun 2016 - 08:25:40)

Along with The Hungry Horse that was once a fine value for money facility for Liphook this business has been undermined by poor investment in staff and training by the corporate owners. No doubt they will blame the diminishing turnover on the staff rather than look at their role and will eventually close it. Disgusting

Re: The Co-Op
- liz (23rd Jun 2016 - 11:35:55)

Could it be that its a small shop with little impact on the Co-op's profits sitting on a potentially very valuable development site. If they run it down they can say people don't use it so its not needed. Perhaps a few emails to Co-op's head office needed and few more visits to the Co-op!

Re: The Co-Op
- B (23rd Jun 2016 - 13:16:24)

Wouldn't now be a good opportunity to move the store anyway... with all the proposed developments we could have new store with proper parking etc.?

Re: The Co-Op
- liz (23rd Jun 2016 - 15:02:43)

Move it where to ? The point is that its a relatively central pop-in shop, not an alternative to Sainsburys.

Re: The Co-Op
- D (25th Jun 2016 - 16:36:04)

Grayshott Co-Op is outstanding, well stocked, clean, tidy and friendly staff

I presume that they are also effected by the same cuts as everyone else but clearly have a lot more pride in there shop.

Re: The Co-Op
- Kathie (25th Jun 2016 - 18:41:30)

Very sad reading this post really. The staff at the coop must feel terribly demoralised with the constant criticism which is being thrown at them. It must be very hard for them to be cheerful when they are being given such hard press.
They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they are stacking the shelves they are called away to the tills. Are they expected to push the trollies back into the store whilst they serve?
Give them a break, when you receive constant criticism it is hard to rise above it.

Re: The Co-Op
- H (25th Jun 2016 - 20:13:01)

FYI Coop Grayshott isn't the same company. Liphook is run by Southern cooperatives. Totally different company with their own rules & policies.

Re: The Co-Op
- Wayne (25th Jun 2016 - 20:55:03)

They have been really struggling with staff you should be lucky that on a Sunday that the are open after sainsburys close because what else are you all going to do if co op closes down then what are you going to do. If you don't like it there then don't go in its that simple. They are trying there hardest in that place to try and make sure everything is there for us.
