Windows 10
- Paul Ellis (30th Apr 2016 - 10:32:57)

As a so-called 'silver surfer' with a limited knowledge of my lap top - although I can get round day to day workings - but I'm unsure if Windows 10 is easy to work with if I accept it, or might I find myself out of my depth? Your helpful comments please.

It's pretty straight forward to upgrade to windows 10, just follow the prompts. It can take a while to download and install, but well worth having the latest operating system imo.

I'd recommend having another device handy to google anything you're not sure about as you go along.

There are quite a few settings that you might want to adjust, to do with privacy (sharing your WiFi passwords, allowing microsoft to log your searches etc) that you should read up about to make an informed decision first.

Here's a link that covers quite a lot about it: goo.gl/4p1oZH

As a not quite silver surfer but getting there I have found windows 10 very straightforward. It's very user friendly in my view.

I went on a 2 hour course at the Fernhurst Centre. Very informative and excellent value at £10. Well worth attending.

If you are happy with your existing OS, I'd suggest staying with it. I have 2 identical laptops, 1 for work and 1 of my own of which I updated my own to Windows 10. Bad move.... The graphics drivers don't work properly causing the screen to 'blink' regularly, some old programs just don't work now and the process has been nothing short of painful. Driver updates haven't solved the problems and it is now essentially unusable.
I've now come to the conclusion that my laptop is ruined as there's no way back from the upgrade.
Be warned from my woes and if it isn't broken, don't fix it!

AndyW - if it's less than one month since you upgraded, you can reverse the upgrade.
Go to 'Settings / Update and Security / Go back to Windows 7 / 8.1'
For the record, my laptop is running well with Windows 10.

Go to the Windows 10 Forum, just google it, there are guys that will help you to get your computer working again, I lost everything could`t even close down they gave me full instructions and I`m now back with my Windows 7 on my laptop, I can download 10 if I want to but I`m sticking with 7, hope this helps

It's only a free upgrade for 1 year, that runs out on 28/07/2016, so if you have a legit windows 7/8 your running out of time for the free upgrade. Anyone having upgraded before that date pays nothing, those after wont be offered the upgrade unless they pay.

James, you're a genius. Thanks to your advice I've just rescued my Windows 10 laptop and restored it to Windows 7. Now working a treat with your help. I owe you a pint my good man!
